She was under no obligation to take the test. She expected to pass. For obvious reasons.

Okay, there are two elements here that bring race into the situation: the race of Thomas, and the fact that she mentions a Confederate monument.
Now: since you agree that her animus is based on politics, not race that removes Thomas from the equation.
