Democrats and "traitors"

Rebs were not lawful combatants. They were rebelling attempting to separate from the United States.

Attempt failed.

The illegal seizure of federal property started the war.

How many countries recognized them?

They were never a legitimate state.

Scott Roeder shot and killed abortionist doctor George Tiller to save the lives of unborn children.

Do the ends justify the means?

Nope they both fighting what they considered an abomination.

Difference is that abortion by choice is still legal

Slavery is not.

Allan

But it was at the time, so this response means nothing.

But now it is and abortion is still the law of the land.

John brown is a hero.

Tiller a murderer.

Allan

You opinion is wrong as always.

But noted.

We will just have to agree to disagree on this subject.

Allan

All of history shows the contrary.

That is why former confederates had to swear allegiance to the Union and the southern states had to be readmitted to the Union during reconstruction.

You cannot admit a state to the union that is already part of same.

The preparation for the blockade and siege of Charleston Harbor began the war.

Ft. Sumpter was not randomly attacked.

If secession was not legitimate the Confederate states would not have had to be readmitted to the Union by an act of Congress.

John Brown was a murderer and a insurrectionist.

He attacked a Federal Arsenal without provocation killing both Military and Civilians.

It isn’t a matter of opinion, it is a matter of facts and history none of which support your position.

They were rebs. Who set up their own faux govt. try spending any of those confederate paper dollars recently. It was an unrecognized govt.

Therefore unlawful combatants and rebels.

Allan

The provocation was to end slavery.

No provocation indeed. lOL

All this brouhaha in order to defend a bunch of people who (for the most part) were born and raised in the United States of America and yet later chose to take up arms against that same country, all over a misguided attempt to save the institution of slavery.

What a noble hill to plant one’s flag on…

Slavery was legal and protected by the laws in 1859. The Confederates were arguably “pro-choice” on the question of slavery; if you objected to slavery then don’t own slaves.

If a future court agrees with science and says that unborn children are human beings and should have civil rights, are we going to honor Scott Roeder as a defender of human rights?

Or was he still a misguided murderer?
