How does one perform research lacking funding? I have spent a fair bit of my career researching a variety of topics. Should I have done so for free? Does it make a difference if it’s funded by the Feds or by an O&G company? Should all of my work and findings be considered skewed/biased because it was funded? If so, in which direction?

Not necessarily, as long as we admit the problems with it. I was simply explaining why what I do is different. I am also paid for tasks that require research on my part, but not paid specifically to research. Complexity theory for example.
Toward the predetermined outcome as much as possible, hopefully stopping short of integrity compromise.

Clearly the people calling for defunding law enforcement have not thought through what would happen.
Paying for protection…petty crime unenforceable…Gang violence and vigilante wars.
Just look at Mexico for what would become city life.
Guns would be everything and everywhere.
It is a crime and poverty can be a factor…Not the only or greatest factor.
It is an extreme example to show looting isn’t about money. It is a herd emotion driven by feelings of powerlessness.

Oh, please don’t confuse what Im saying here. I specifically stated above looting is not about poverty. Looting is about being opportunistic and nothing more.
Then if you think about why men rebel, you will see poverty doesn’t create crime.
Then what does it have to do with this protest? Did any of the events of his murder have anything at all to do with poverty?

What’s crazy about the situation that I mentioned with my old coworker is that they stole the televisions and all of his game consoles. But they didn’t take his AR or either of his pistols, which were in the closet.

I was never linking crimes committed out of poverty to these protests. I don’t recall that linkage being made in here… I was simply following up on your comment above. Didn’t seem like either of you were taking about crime/poverty in relation to the protests.
The principle of attempting to prove each hypothesis wrong, not right.
Well, we don’t attempt to prove hypothesis right. That’s physically impossible. You continue to test to either 1) gain more and more support for you hypothesis, at which point it is generally accepted as true, or 2) the hypothesis is disregarded or modified.
Perhaps in decision analysis the word hypothesis is used in more layman terms , but with what I (used to) do, a hypothesis is never proven right.
