I think in order to make that claim, you have to be able to move anywhere at anytime. Certain areas are no doubt making it seem that way.

Right but just like Chicago where violence is highly concentrated to specific spots most of the violence in nyc is also concentrated to specific spots
That’s why the New York post explodes when things happen from financial district which is the southern tip of Manhattan to basically 86th street. Because that’s not a common occurrence
It’s data.
Higher income areas have less crime than lower income areas. It’s a fact.
I wouldn’t steal food if I were poor. It’s hard to steal $800 worth of food at once.
I’d steal an iPhone, sell it for $800 and then buy $800 worth of food.
Blue cities have the highest crime rates.

Agreed. That’s another reason why the pEr CaPiTa metric is useless.

Or chips and $775 worth of coke.
There are less police patrolling higher income areas
Sure. Mostly due to having higher income and more expensive assets to protect.
You must be joking
Either way. Nobody who groceries should steal a cart full of groceries. Steal a smaller more valuable item and then sell it for cash… then get groceries.
You’ve never talked to anyone who’s lived that life, and it shows.

Missouri rural areas:
- Potosi, Missouri - crime rate 81.95 out of 1,000
Am I doing my math right? That’s 819.5 per 100K, right? Worse than most on your cities list.

You see how stupid that metric is?
Right… what is your point?
It’s not stupid.
It shows how much more likely one is to see a crime in a certain area. And it’s the best way to compare two datasets where one is larger than the other.

If you are in a room with 1000 people and 10 people are going to rape. There is a 1 in 100 chance that someone is raped.

If you are in room of 10000 people and 10 people are going to rape… there is a 1 in 1000 chance
In which room are you safer from rape?

No, because poverty is a symptom, not a cause.

The one that’s in a red area where crime is much lower. Away from policies that treat the rapist gently.
