COVID: The lesser flu

Yeah, you don’t understand statistics, either.

Of course I do. NYC has a metric buttload. The rest of the country has a not so bad flu season so far.

I’m not comparing NYC to the rest of the US. I’m comparing NYC to NYC. I’m comparing the effects of flu compared to the effects of covid in the same exact environment. If covid is 7x worse than flu in NYC, why wouldn’t covid be 7x worse than flu in Texas?

Really? Is that why we’ve had several threads claiming “xxx people died from the flu, which was way worse” or “only 0.xx% die from it” downplaying the deaths. I don’t see many stating that its terrible that anyone dies from any virus. I only see folks pointing to Obama and the flu or Ebola and making excuses. Then I see other threads going “Free Michigan! Get back to work!” insinuating that its okay that others get infected and die. Then you have idiots like “Dr” Oz and Congressidiot Hollingsworth claiming that we need to sacrifice people in order to get the economy going.

This thread is solely created to downplay how bad COVID-19 is. Its not " a flu". Its not a “lesser flu”. Idiot Trump was out during one of his rallies saying that in April, it will “disappear”, it will be a “miracle”. Its not going away, more people are dying.

Is it 7x worse in Texas today?

You think it’s going to be around forever?

That is different.

Newer PCR tests need a finger ■■■■■.

:hospital:

I am having trouble finding anyone who said anything like that…except for NuffSaid, of course.

Basically, you are showing a graph with a different presumption than the OP. Recent studies seem to show that the presumptions in that graph may be nonsense.

You have no way of knowing what COVID will be like with vaccines and therapeutics.

There’s never been a vaccine nor longer-term immunity for coronaviruses.

That high number is from cooking the books, what better way to instill fear, these people are sick.

If it turns out that COVID-19 is about as dangerous as the common cold I’m going to be really upset that I had to shelter in place for the past five weeks.

Well, we know that ■■■■ is a myth.

Oh no. “Powdered Wig Society”? Come on man.

How many people that had the flu but died with other complication and flu wasn’t named the cause?

Well, aren’t you a tone deaf poe

The site is amazing, though.

A plane has five passengers on board: Donald Trump, the Pope, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Hillary Clinton, and a ten-year-old girl.
The plane is about to crash and there are only four parachutes.
Dr. Fauci said, “I need one, I have to help develop a cure for COVID19!” He straps on a parachute and jumps.
The Pope said “I need one, I have to help spiritually guide people through the global health crisis that is COVID19!” He takes one and jumps.
Hillary said, “I need one, I’m the smartest woman in the world.” She takes one and jumps.
President Trump pauses for a moment, then turns to the young girl. After a deep sigh, he says tenderly, “You can have the last parachute. I’ve lived my life, yours is just beginning.”
The girl replies, “Don’t worry, there are two parachutes left. The smartest woman in the world is wearing my bookbag.”

The age thing makes a huge difference I had mentioned in a previous thread the economy might not have suffered as bad if everyone 55 and under was allowed to work in office go outside and create a herd effect while people over 55 could work at home until it’s deemed safe. The age isn’t static but this disease clearly hits the elderly in a brutal way.

Ah, news coming out on twitter that the authors of the Santa Clara study and LA study really fuddled up some underlying confidence interval calculations. This will be interesting to see how it pans out.
