Here’s the idea behind less invasive antibody testing.
Presence of antibodies give at least the idea that exposure has taken place. How long the immune system fights this novel virus with antibodies isn’t yet known.
The conclusions were that 4.1% of adults in LA county have antibodies for Covid. From the article: “That translates to roughly 221,000 to 442,000 adults who have recovered from an infection, once margin of error is taken into account, according to the researchers conducting the study.” They also estimated a mortality rate of .1%-.2%.
863 people were selected for testing via a market research team to “represent the makeup of the county”. Study comes out of USC.
It seems they are going to continue to repeat the study every 2-3 weeks over the course of several months.
Over 7x more people have died from COVID-19 in NYC than from flu. You think NYC is just magical city where flu affects it less and COVID-19 affects it more than other cities?
The average flu death toll for the past 10 years is 37,461. Quit it with the “not yet” garbage, it doesn’t hold anymore.
This doesn’t make sense. I compared NYC flu deaths to NYC COVID-19 deaths. Apples to apples. COVID-19 is over 7x worse in just over a month than an entire flu season.
Worst Covid ever vs. “Ten year average”
Sounds valid.
Of course it does, when you compare US to US. Are you under the impression I am advocating that the greater NYC area do anything different than it is doing today? I hope not, that would be a mistake.
This is both the least and most deadly COVID-19. It’s all we have to go on. Thus, we take the average flu. Taking the 61,000 figure from 2017-2018 makes as much sense as taking the 12,000 from 2011-2012.
But I’m comparing the effects of COVID-19 vs flu in the same environment. In the same environment (NYC), there have been over 7x more deaths in a little over a month than an entire flu season. Why would that 7x not apply to Texas flu deaths? For example, we had 2,900 flu deaths in 2017. With a fatality rate of even 1%, only 2 million of our residents would have to be infected to reach that death toll. Thank God the Rodeo was cancelled.
