It’s not removing the statues that most of us have and issue about, it is removing structures based on mob rule and violence. I have no care for the confederacy and no ties to it at the same time things like this should be voted on and removed by the elected officials like they are doing now.

I agree they should be voted on.

But there was major resistance to that as well.

And there is no question these statues weren’t put up because of “heritage”.

They were put up in response to nascent civil rights movements in the late 1890s-1900s, when the United Daughters of the Confederacy invented the “Noble Lost Cause” narrative, and then again in the mid-20th Century, when civil rights movements started up again.

And the arguments in this thread to keep them named the same are silly.

I don’t really care what the bases are named…I find the defense of keeping them named the same silly…and interesting.

Simply a matter of fact. Without the food, fuel, and fiber not to mention the millions of men from the south the US could not have even been competitive in any war during the last century.
