Comparative Hypocrisy H1N1 2009 vs Covid19 in2020

I said no such thing. Why do insist on attributing things to me I never said?

:joy:Keep moving those goalposts.Thats not declaring national emergency like the metric you set for Obama

Did Trump declare a national emergency yet? No? Weird

…while crediting Trump for issuing a public health emergency announcement but not a national emergency

Yeah but Obama did it mom jeans

I might be wrong… but isn’t the H1N1 swine flu the one that the CEC has a field day about not getting the vaccine?

Didn’t Glenn Beck say something like “Do you trust your government?”

No, the vaccine was available.

I’m loving it.

Your memory serves you well. They were scaring listeners about it

Yes and conservative pundits like Beck and Limbaugh were questioning whether it was safe

and that was all even before the Ebola scare

Eleven days from the time the first case was detected.

after the peak of illness during the second wave had come and gone in the United States. From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

So do the math, this virus is about 22 to 25 times more deadlier?

As for Florida with all retired people and nursing home…it doesn’t look good for Fla if they get hit hard.

And he also assured the public that the number of cases in the US would soon go to zero.

A real leader would not be grousing about the media but would do three things.

  1. Tell the public that this is a serious matter and that while we all hope for the best we have to prepare for the worst
  2. Announce that an unquestionable top notch medical and epidemiological team of experts is advising the US government on what to do. Never pick someone who discounts medical science to lead such an effort!
  3. State that his job is to make sure that the resources that team needs are provided as quickly as possible.

Zero. The public health emergency was declared on April 26, 2009. Obama declared a National Emergency (a much different thing) in October of 2009.

A public health emergency was declared on January 31, 2020 [2]. Trump has not declared a National Emergency and has said that’s premature [3]

Potentially so for sure.

What would the public reaction be if Trump had waiting to take any significant steps to stop the spread until there were already 10,000 dead?

Good point. Let’s see how Obama explained the H1N1 to the American people and compare

First, we are continuing to closely monitor the emergency cases of the H1N1 flu virus throughout the United States. As I said this morning, this is obviously a very serious situation, and every American should know that their entire government is taking the utmost precautions and preparations. Our public health officials have recommended that schools with confirmed or suspected cases of this flu strongly consider temporarily closing. And if more schools are forced to close, we’ve recommended that both parents and businesses think about contingency plans if their children do have to stay home.

I’ve requested an immediate $1.5 billion in emergency funding from Congress to support our ability to monitor and track this virus and to build our supply of antiviral drugs and other equipment, and we will also ensure that those materials get to where they need to be as quickly as possible

He picked someone who actually has experience as the point man for the team of experts on the subject.

He also issued a travel ban and quarantines before the first case even reached the US with his emergency declaration on the 31st of January.

He picked someone who ignored the experts when he was Governor of Indiana and created his own local HIV cluster. And a man who has published claims that there is no link between smoking and mortality.

The different between H1N1 and Covid19 was Covid19 hits the elderly hard while it seem H1N1 didn’t so much age discriminate.
