No, that is just hysterics. The definition is fairly straight forward, the Colorado court decision goes over the parameters needed and how Trump met them quite explicitly. I know you don’t like it, but that doesn’t make it specious. And you can’t just call everything you don’t like an insurrection, there is a reason it is rare. And what is amazing is that a former President of the United States met the criteria and quite clearly, and that his supporters literally do not care that he did.
I will have to say this, that is dedication. I don’t know how I could support someone who openly tried to overthrow the will of the electorate by violent means. But millions still avidly support the man, which is quite shocking.

Well, due process for this was accomplished. Trump had his day in court, his legal team presented their argument against him being culpable and the Judge found their argument lacking. And ruled accordingly. You can’t say there was no due process just because Trump lost, Trump seems to lose a lot in court, if you have noticed.
And Trump was not punished in this case. Not being able to run for President is not a punishment, just like it is not a punishment for a 25 year old, or someone who is not a natural born citizen. It is simply a disqualification.

In this instance it is an insurrection because a NYTs reporter decided that “riot” didn’t sound ominous enough so they decided to use “insurrection”. Democrats liked it and so adopted the term. Under no normal usage was there an insurrection.

It was an organized and violent effort to delay a federal function, in this case the counting of the electoral vote and the peaceful transfer of power. That is an insurrection.
