And let’s go one further @Roxibelle, You could say there wasn’t a leftist progressive socialist movement in this country until Trump abhorrent ways opened up the door for there to be one. Prior to the last 18 months there was never talk about leftists…it was conservative vs liberal. when we talked about libs…it was shorthand for liberal…just like repubs is short for republicans…or cons is short for conservative…
These leftists, progressives and socialists are getting a foothold precisely because of TRUMP.
Well, you are absolutely correct in many ways. But one other factor is not that the left’s ideology has changed, it’s that Trumpists are so sycophantic that anyone who disagrees with them is labeled a “leftist progressive socialist Democrat”. Even traditional conservatives. They see the current political spectrum in our country as:

The party of lets kill babies even after they are born alive. The same party that went after McCain’s running mates children and said horrible things about them. The party that defended Bill Clinton. The party that hates Christian’s and calls they bigots and racist. And I could go on and on and now they are trying to hold themselves up as the model of morals and virtue. That’s funny.
