Time after time there are complaints of churches having tax exempt status. Of people like Falwell and Graham getting involved in politics. Cries of “separation!”
Imagine this: “A white vote for Obama is mental illness” on a sign out front of a predominantly white church anywhere in the south.
What should be done here?

Agree. The solution is quite simple. No church gets tax exemption. Period.
How many black churches would have to close if they had to pay taxes?
The money they use to help the needy in their communities would be better used to pad the centgov and state coffers?

I’d say they should do nothing, but it seems like some northern white lib getting offended by a local issue down south is the best possible way to help. Far more effective than thoughts and prayers.

Moving on… I believe nothing should happen to this church based on this sign. I’m more offended by the mental illness part of the sign that anything else.

Here’s a suggestion: If you see a thread I started and has a poll, move on. You are not required to whine about everything I do to maintain your membership in good standing.
Revoke tax exempt status for any religious organization that delves into politics thusly. No exceptions.
The tax would be on their profit, so how would that be taxing money that is used to help the needy?
And it wouldn’t be used to force acceptable behavior, as all churches would be taxed. They can behave how they want.
Define “profit” in a black church. Do churches pay property tax?
A true conservative understands the meaning of the religion clause in the 1st Amendment does not preclude a church from expressing a political opinion as a body.
