They are completely free to do it without government interference. They should, however, lose the privilege of tax exempt status, given what that status is based on.
It’s not using taxes as an authoritarian rule to force “acceptable behavior”. It’s stopping a ridiculous policy of religious tax exemption. Especially when religion is defined by accountants and tax lawyers. Which is just silly. It’s releasing churches from having their rights infringed on. Let them talk about politics. But they don’t get tax exemption. Any of them. That’s as simple as you can make it.
@SneakySFDude you need some practice at this poll malarkey my friend.
Any church that is actively engaged in politics or is publicly endorsing a candidate should have their tax exempt status removed.
But then again I see no reason why churches should have any form of tax exemption. It is completely abused and allows for a lot of so called “preachers” to get extremely wealthy. I detest “prosperity” preaching. They feed on the vulnerable and weak of mind.
Apparently you were.
What proof do you have that Obama was a racists? Post it here! Also, don’t give me that crap about Rev. Wright’s sermon until you actually heard that entire sermon and educate yourself on Trinity’s ministry and mission.
Of course it is. Look at the posts. Punishment! Take it away!
Do you have any idea how many churches would have to close? Have you ever been in a rural black church? A lot of them are on donated land or they’ve been there since land was affordable. What do you think would happen if they had to start paying taxes?
The black church has a long history of fighting segregation and even slavery. Of giving the black community a voice against oppression. Of community organizing. The most famous black leader in the world used a church pulpit right up until he was murdered.
And you want to tax them into oblivion? Check your privilege.
You can’t fake being woke… so you should probably stop. Tax exempt status is no unique to black churches, nor was it implemented to help black churches.
I don’t know… you tell me. I don’t know the financial status of black churches.
