Census Citizenship Question

It says persons.

So say it clearly. Dont beat around the bush. You are for counting visitors. Just say it. It isnt that hard.

Are they “free persons”? If they’re not enslaved or untaxed Indians or not “bound to service for a term of years”, they’re free persons…

Right. So you are for the high population states getting more representation at the national level than what they should. You are also for visitors getting more representation than citizens. Some day, this view may come back to haunt you.

Meh. It’s unlikely the other states will become the high population states. They can’t even keep decent credit scores.

And, we already have a mechanism for every state to get equal representation. It is the higher branch of Congress The abuses there might come back to haunt you if that mechanism loses the consent of the governed.

The high population states are already underrepresented.

. Congress does the apportioning process. Not laymen such as yourself.

You re making a number of arguments that would have been good arguments for the Trump Administration to have presented.

But the decision rests don what the Trump Administration presented; that the citizenship question was needed to enable more effective implementation of the Voting Rights Act. That’s what Wilbur Ross said, and he testified in Congress that he only started to look at the citizenship question when he became aware of its tie to the Voting Rights Act.

What has emerged in the past month is a trove of documents that show: 1) that the initial planning for question was predicated on its use to inaccurately undercount Hispanic citizens, to the advantage of the Republican Party and 2) that Ross started work on the question within weeks of taking office and well before the Voting Rights issue was brought to his attention.

When the Supreme Court heard the issue, it seemed from the questions that the court would hold for the Trump Administration. Its clear from Roberts’ decision that he flipped because of the questions raised subsequently… a set of issues that clearly would have made this a partisan ruling of the sort that Roberts appears worried will define his legacy. Of course, he did hand the Republicans a huge victory in the gerrymandering case today, so you can view this simply striving for balance.

The other conclusion is that Ross perjured himself in his Congressional testimony, clearly he provided a false timeline for how the issue was decided. In amidst all the corruption and perjury fo team Trump, one wonders whether anyone will care or notice. It’s just another brick in the wall.

I prefer to go with what the constitution says.

Thanks for bringing this info to light. It seems that all govt employees are crooks or incompetent. Why should I be surprised by what Wilbur Ross showing he is the same.

Sure. Go with what is written rather than the understood meaning. How come you have a hard time grasping and supporting what the second amendment says?

I would rather loose with dignity than have to cheat to win.

There is a reason not just citizens are counted in the census and that is by design.

Do you know how many people live in the us who are not permanent residents but are here legally?

Indeed.
Why do we need 2 Dakotas?

There is less than 2 million people in both states, yet they get 4 senators.

CA has nearly 40 million, and we get 2.

I also believe we need to adjust Reps, to be more in line with the Constitution. It calls for 30k persons per rep.

With technology and air travel, that is probably not needed…but today it is over 700k persons per rep.

Probably somewhere between 250k-500k persons per rep would make more sense. Of course Republicans would not want that…as generally where there are more people, they tend to vote for the Democratic party.

I would not support a broad brush about all government employees… many are hard working and honest people. But each Administration brings a tone to the capital and this one clearly reflects the ethical limitations of the man at the top.

A year-ago, the Supreme Court accepted a series of Trump administration assurances underlying the Muslim ban. A year later, none of those assurances have been met. Maybe John Roberts is a Who fan. Stranger things have happened.

Yea! Now Trump wants the census delayed (“no matter how long”) until the SCOTUS comes to it’s senses.

Yep. Dumb bastard just wants to be a dictator.

Predictable for sure.

The insane thing, is that any other president, and this statement is held over his head for years. We’re going to forget about this tomorrow.

The president of the most powerful country on earth is a complete idiot.

According to a transcript obtained by The Daily Beast, Tillerson said he often felt uncomfortable by the president’s quick decisions, usually made without reading briefing materials or memos. And that unease, particularly on the issue of immigration, led Tillerson to lean on State Department lawyers about how to manage the president’s demands, according to the transcript.

I wonder what his lawyers told him.
