Europe and China are experiencing spikes just as we are. The other nations you speak of are Island nations or closed off tightly controlled nations where containment is pretty simple and curbing egress was the major factor in “defeating” the virus.
Further, the CDC said from the beginning that the US would have different peaks and spikes in different areas. We are a large nation and not every area will peak at the same time.

How many folks are not going to follow the recommendations and contract the virus?
Then how many of those folks are going to infect other people, not knowing that they are contagious?
And how many of those people might have health issues and might die?

It does and it’s up to the state to set regulations to try to mitigate some of it.

No, we aren’t.
Some of the world’s poorest populations have a worse lot due to economic shutdowns and restrictions on their movements.
The effects of border shutdowns have been disastrous on deprived populations like the Yemeni, dependent on outside food shipments for their survival.
Some in the west are more susceptible to a poor outcome from this virus than others. It would have made more sense to offer these higher risk populations employment furloughs & take additional precautions than to shut down the entire world economy.
