IMHO, Bolton is a straight-arrow honest broker. Pointed in the wrong direction, yes; but straight-arrow honest.

He has a powerful loyalty to the Executive Branch and the Office of the President, but no loyalty to any individual person.

Trump has a way of not inspiring trust or loyalty in others.

Bolton’s refusal to testify voluntarily reflects his loyalty to the Office - he doesn’t want to damage its authority.

But he will testify against Trump - and despite his animosity, he’ll reveal malfeasance where he saw it, and not speculate about what he doesn’t know.

I don’t wonder what his opinion on the call was.
It indicated a divergence from the status quo foreign policy settings determined by the CIA, so it was disturbing to Bolton and is grounds for removing Trump and replacing him with someone who will do what s/he’s damn well told.

There is a disturbing notion promulgated by years of congressional deference that the president is the sole determiner of foreign policy. Trump had NO legal authority to withhold or delay the funds… none…

Meanwhile the GOP is villianizing a decorated Iraq War Vet…

Bolton is a chicken hawk deeply invested in keeping the military industrial complex busy, and he (IMO) is wrong about a whole host of issues from NK to Isreal, but I don’t think he’s a liar. And so his testimony will be interesting to say the least.

Doesn’t mean he’s a hero of mine.
