Biden to ban Natural Gas Stoves

Oh. Ok.

Well, the thread of the conversation you responded to was not about government mandates.

But the thread itself is.

And I’m coming from a practical side.

My house was built in 1905. I’m not even sure they had running water or electricity back then. TBH, I’m thankful this house has circuit breakers.

Now, the wise people in Albany, NY are demanding I update my home to accommodate an electric stove (and plan to tax natural gas to force me to do so). And it’s going to cost me thousands just to do that.

These people think homeowners have buckets of money to throw at their climate hysteria. I simply do not have that kind of money.

They need to come out of their ivory towers and have a cup of coffee with me. I’ll even pay for the coffee, just to have someone actually listen to me for a change.

This is assuming they are reasonable people. Do those exist anymore?

I get you - but the conversation you replied to was about the practical natural of each energy source.

The current ban is for new builds only, so you currently don’t have anything to worry about. No one is demanding you to change to electric.

I bet it’s over turned soon. It’s really screwing up new construction and housing is scarce. The electric grid can’t handle the demand this is creating.

Actually, floyd resurrected this thread a few days ago because of the practical side and cost of conversion he is facing.

Others derailed that conversation to efficiency and other peripheral deflections.

The prevailing “climate change” push (and yes, that push is still on) is driving toward the elimination of gas stoves (and other uses.) Sure, it starts with new-build only. And the ever-constant camel’s nose will expand it. And New York is one of the states leading the charge. Even if the current ban gets overturned.

I don’t think it will ever expand to a point where old homes have to be converted. As Floyd points out, it’s just prohibitively expensive. Even if something like that passed, I doubt it would hold up constitutionally.

I think this ban will be repealed. There isn’t enough power in the grid, and housing is scarce. And also, as discussed, electric sucks.

It could easily be expanded (and probably will be) to require the conversion to take place before the home can be sold. There is precedence for such actions. Many communities currently require that all non-EPA approved wood burning devices be removed from homes before the house can be sold.

The camel’s nose.
