And look at what the Israelis have put them through.
Now Israel has the most reactionary government in its existence.
It’s not like Israel is all unified. There are constant protests that are being ignored by Bibi because the second there are new elections he is out of power and will face a lot of legal trouble.
Supporting Hamas is a death sentence. Perhaps when the people of Gaza understand their survival is contingent upon co-existing in peace with Israel they can become a prosperous and happy society.
Being born in Gaza in the last 18 years which looks worse for you. The occupying force or the militant murderous terrorists that fight the occupying force?
The whole situation is ■■■■■■■ but I also think that placing collective punishment on Gazans as a whole works against the long term security and stability of Israel.
There is only so much blood that they can spill in retribution before the rest of the world punished them for it.
Israel is not collectively punishing people who live in Gaza. Israel is trying to destroy a terrorist organization, which has been their stated goal since October.
Again, it’s not retribution. The war shouldn’t end until Hamas is destroyed, or the cycle will repeat itself in a few years. Gazans need a new government and an actual chance to live in peace.
When that involves dropping more bombs than has been dropped on any place on earth, mass starvation, and resistance to providing aid… it is collective punishment.
Bibi is going to empty out the North of Gaza and occupy it. The rest will be pushed into the South where they will be forced to live in a smaller ghetto than before.
And it isn’t just me that is viewing this as collective punishment… the world is turning against Israel.
The more civilians that are killed the more Israel loses on the world stage.
Gazans aren’t getting a new government… they are getting military occupation by Israel.
You think that that will end Hamas? Or the next group that takes its place?
Yes I you are correct. Its not like israel hasnt tried all other options up until this point. Palestinians want to use terrorists to do their dirty work this is all that is left.
It’s war in an incredibly dense urban environment. I haven’t seen evidence that Israel is targeting civilians or collectively punishing the population.
Shocker.
We don’t know what will happen after the war ends. With Hamas gone, Gazans will have an actual choice: war or peace. In the past they have chosen war, but that’s not a guarantee they’ll continue to choose it.
That article doesn’t describe carpet bombing, and the analysis is from October/November. I’m sure I don’t agree with every move the IDF makes, but I’m not going to nitpick either. It’s war. If Hamas had 2,000 lb bombs and the means to drop them, Israel would be a smoking crater right now.
That’s a prediction, not a fact. What do you think will happen if Israel backs off now and leaves Hamas intact? Peace and prosperity? Hamas forced Israel into some terrible decisions.
What would you have the Israelis do then? They’re kind of out of options when it comes to the Palestinian problem.
Which is why I suspect the One State Solution without the Palestinians is moving forward in Jerusalem. Mainly because they’re running out of options.
The two state solution is dead. And has been for some time. The one state solution with the Palestinians would destroy Israel as the Jewish state. The status quo cannot continue for both logistical and moral reasons.
They’re kind of out of options. There’s too many Palestinians and they won’t change their mindset.
