If he had mental problems and it looks like he did, it would have been illegal for him to own a gun. Unfortunately, gun laws do not keep killers from getting guns.
You lose either way with your kind of thinking, because the only way to stop a killer with a gun from killing is to kill him first. That takes a good guy with a gun.
