OK, so despite not posting any real evidence in this thread, you’re convinced that Amazon is breaking federal law. I already asked you this and you ignored it, but what is the Trump administration doing to remedy these illegal actions?
We don’t.
We use the J-1 program.
Legitimately, it’s difficult to get young Americans, even HS or college students, to move to a resort town in a rural county and work a summer job.
A person, like a Temp Service or something, probably --could-- establish a summer temp agency specializing in American workers, and they would do just that. So far no one has done that, at least not here.
The folks I knew used H-2B on LBI when I lived there, but that was a while ago.
H2B requirements
To use the H-2 visa program, an employer must prove that the job is temporary or seasonal and that there are no available U.S. workers. They must establish a U.S. business, conduct recruitment to find U.S. workers, and receive a temporary labor certification from the U.S. Department of Labor before submitting the petition to USCIS. Additionally, employers must offer wages and working conditions at least as favorable as those offered to H-2 visa holders, and provide housing and transportation if needed.
J-1:
Employers must provide suitable office space, meet labor laws, and ensure adequate supervision and training for J-1 visa participants. Key requirements include a safe and well-maintained environment, fair wages, adherence to working hours, and a program designed for professional growth, not to displace American workers. Many companies work with third-party program sponsors, who handle administrative burdens and ensure program compliance.

Is there a substantial difference between:
that there are no available U.S. workers.
and
not to displace American workers.
Seem to be saying the same thing - can’t be taking jobs from americans.
I sure don’t understand this. All I wanted to do in HS was get a summer job at the shore.
The problem isn’t with liberals. The problem is that Bezos could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and Trump wouldn’t condemn it or do prosecute it.
■■■■ giant corps. ■■■■ them and the money they use to buy our government, resulting in laws that grossly favor them, the giant ■■■■■■■■
And just to be clear - ■■■■ Bezo, ■■■■ amazon.
I am not sure how it got started,
I know that NOW the employers need people working by mid May and
(finals week in college and still classes in HS)
the landlords are unlikely to rent a 3 BR apartment ot six unconnected kids.
Both are much more comfortable working through agencies and services
and the agencies and services all seem to recruit from abroad.
People say “Oh American kids don’t wanna this,” and “American kids won’t do that,” and I have seen no reason to believe any of that is true. What I do know is what I wrote above.
The timing is definitely part of it, but I think more of it is, these days, middle class kids are over programed by helicopter parents. High school student athletes have summer leagues and training, and fall training starts weeks before school.
Academically oriented kids are taking summer courses, and academic camps to boost their college app appeal…
Summer after my freshman year I went to Wash DC. (1980s)
Getting a summer only place without paying a whole lot up front was kind of an adventure, (coulda been a catastrophe)
I was a couple weeks late to have my pick of summer jobs and felt fortunate to find one that gave me 40 hours.
It would be harder in a small town like this so I am not totally surprised that the market (both employers and landlords) is now wrapped around the “use an agency” mindset.
Well I think for them it comes down to race they would see an American software engineer losing their position to and Indian as mostly a positive thing as the software engineer was probably white so Amazon did a good thing.
Whereas they well get behind the murder of healhcare ceo killer Luigi because the CEO was white and they think it’s sticking it to the man. The problem with these division games is no one wins. They won’t win just corporations could give a flying’s rats ■■■■ what color the worker is they want cheap labor.
And they are going to lose on healthcare because they would need to peel off republican voters in order to have enough voters to change the vote. So even when they do have the numbers look at what they did under Obama the ACA which just made the insurance companies more rich and healthcare more unaffordable.
To get around the needing voters that want mass migration the problem is two fold. First they have went so far socially left they are losing hispanic voters and even when they get their mass migrations the migrants usually always choose the same few states.
KInda like the problems Europe had when those war weary migrants
walked past countries like Italy trying to make it to the richer nordic countries that has a better social safety net. So the migrants hear aren’t flooding Alabama and South Carolina. They are flooding California.
I think the thread is filled with people questioning the validity of the complaint.
Count me among them.
I’ll say it again, ■■■■ Amazon.
But I’m not sure you can bash them for taking advantage of cheaper foreign labor, and relatedly, I’m supportive of people in other countries trying to improve their lot by coming to America.
Happy to discuss the virtures of this, or any other Visa program. And I don’t think I have heard an answer to the question, can Amazon claim American workers refuse to take these jobs because of pay? Does that satisfy the program?
