As we do our Christmas shopping this year, let's try to remember

Hmm compnay that laid off 2,000 US engineers (as part of a 35,000 person layoff)
while thens ofthsoands of tech employees are getting laid-off nationwide
Hires 3,500 skilled employees from overseas
.
.
.
To do so they were required (under the law) to look and look and look and claims "we could not find anyone in America with those skills.)

C’mon. I like dit better when libs pretended to be intellectuals. This faux naivete and feigned ignorance is as taxing and flatulent this time as it was last time.

120,000 tech employees laid off this year.

Amazon:
“We can’t find andy tech employees”

Libs:
“Gaius you have not proven your case. We have absolutely no idea if Amazon is lyingor not.”

Shop local and always try first to do business with those within your community. What goes around, comes around and that’s life when you think about more than just today.

That’s true.
Shopping local is always cool.

(But the biggie is don’t do business with known criminals.)

There’s no intellectualism going on in your posts at all.

They laid off engineers and then hired engineers under H1B is not enough evidence of impropriety.for action to be taken.

If they lied about this, in order to be charged with it, there has to be EVIDENCE they lied.

None of which you have provided.

Provide evidence that the engineers they let go have the same skill sets as the engineers they are bringing in under H1B…or that those skillets are available in pools of US workers.

This isn’t difficult to understand.

This isn’t a defense of Amazon. If you remember my history of posting here, you know I’m not a defender of Amazon, especially when there were threads on the warehouse they wanted to build in New York.

This is basic evidence you have to provide. “It looks bad” is not enough.

When the conomy lays off 132,000 medical professionals
and a company lays-off 2,000
And then caims “We could not find any medical professionals for hire” they are most probably lying.

Same deal wiht compu-tech

The fact that you continue to pretend like you don’t understand this is
is an argument so vacuous it makes Kamala look smart.

If we’re dead, how will we buy their crap?

Don’t get me wrong - I hate amazon. I refuse to get a Prime account. Won’t use them unless absolutely necessary for work.

But they don’t want us dead.

Cheers. On this…we agree. :tumbler_glass:

‘Engineer’ is a pretty broad job description.

The folks getting laid off, do you know what specifically they do?

What does the law say about wages? IOW, if they post a job for X and no americans bite, can they fill it with foreign labor?

How do the beach towns get so many H1B visas? Surely plenty of americans are qualified to run amusement rides, run cash registers, and serve cocktails, yet every summer they use the program.

I think what they will say is ‘we couldn’t find any american medical professionals who will work for our ■■■■■■ low wages’.

“Accept my unsupported proposition or you’re an idiot.”

There it is.

I agree but I also have to do whats right for me financially and many times shopping local is too expensive.

I get that makes me part of the problem so I shop local when I can but that is becoming more difficult to do.

You tried and that’s what counts IMHO.

I am personal-finance driven. I’ll consider something from a local proprietor if the price is close, but my tolerance for “close” is not very broad.

This. I would rather support my local grocery store than go to Walmart, but my preferred marinara sauce is almost twice as expensive at the local store, and that’s just one example. I can afford to shop local, but paying double for the same product is hard to swallow.

It’s not the same.

Not all tech engineers are created equal.

That is where your assumptions fail and you need more data.

Okay, okay. I admit.

I was exaggerating for (humorous) effect, and assumed every worthwhile person would get that. (wink)

Yeah
If a company lays off 2,000 black people and hires 3,500 white people,
the proper response is “We have no idea if anything bad is going on.”

How do the summer businesses down the shore use the H1B program? How can they claim there are no qualified american workers to run the ferris wheel and check beach tags?
