I have seen posts citing to debates surrounding the 25th Amendment’s passage. I have not read or researched those source, but I would not be surprised to learn that it was indeed mostly the intent of Congress (because solidarity of intent on any measure passed by a legislative body is virtually impossible) to limit the Amendment to situations of mental or physical incapacitation.
HOWEVER, having said that, just because FBI / DOJ officials discussed approaching cabinet members about invoking the 25th Amendment for reasons inconsistent with the Amendment’s intent does not make the discussion seditious (per the legal definition of that term) or otherwise illegal. It merely renders the discussion misguided and stupid. And, to some, “troubling.”
Do you really want a police state.
Do you want every congressman and every employee in DC going around wearing a wire trying to get some dirt on the other side.
We all have to have some trust in each other even if we differ in opinions on how things should be done. This sneaking around is not the way I want my government to act. If they had a problem they should have come right out and stated what their problem was.
Even if they had followed through with their “plotting” to approach cabinet members (and eventually both houses of Congress), the “job to decide to use the Amendment,” and ultimately “the power to remove the President,” remain vested solely in the cabinet and Congress, correct?
You are defending the DOJ and the FBI going outside their duties. If you defend this and turn a blind eye to this because it’s happening to he other side of the aisle or to a president that you don’t like lthan when the tables are turned you can’t really complain.
I believe that when obama used his pen and phone and passed DACA he was going outside the duties of his office. I believe that trump declaring a national emergency on the border is outside his duties of office.
The DOJ has no authority to decide if a sitting president is unable to preform his duties. They are not doctors they had no proof and the fact that they felt they had the right to even discuss this should send off alarm bells to everyone.
Be carful what you defend. If Harry Reed had not used the nuclear option to push judges through the SC might look every different now. He opened the can of worms and there is no putting worms back in the can now.
The same is true with allowing the DOJ and FBI to even discuss using the 25 amendment. This time they just discussed and talked to a few congressman. Next time they will be even bolder and really wear and wire and push to remove a president that they don’t like.
I think you are pointing the finger at the wrong people here. The right did not hack the DNC emails.The right did not publish the DNC emails. The DOJ or FBI did not hack the DNC’s emails. They also did not publish the emails. Maybe you should make a law making it illegal for US media to publish stolen material.
So how you can believe that any of the DNC’s mistakes were the caused by the republicans or the DOJ and FBI is beyond me.
And where have I said they could not collect evidence to prove their case? I have said all along that if they had provable evidence they had every right to inform congress of their findings. But if you are going to condone wearing a wire to collect dirt on one party don’t complain when the same tactic is used against the other side.
Its been done to the left by people on the right for a long, long time. You were outraged at the idea and clearly opposed it. Why? What are you afraid of?
I said you could look at it as an attempted coup. Knowing what we know about the hate for Trump coming from both sides of the aisle.
And that this should give everyone pause to say is this how we want our government to act.
I believe no one will ever be prosecuted for this act.
But I want congress to look into how this came about. Who all was involved and how far they went. I also think congress should look into how much power the DOJ and FBI have and maybe curtail some of the power that they have. They are accountable for every actions they take or talk about. Maybe they have been given too much leeway to push the envelope after 911 and they need reined in.
And I also think there needs to some serious house cleaning going on. We have to be able to have faith that the DOJ and FBI are not becoming another partisan organization in DC. As of right now there are many voters in the US that are coming to believe that these organization are just another arm of a political party.
Years ago libs supported my efforts concerning the patriot act and abuse it can create even thou they accused me of being paranoid because I said it’s more likely that it will be used against them…meaning conservatives.
Today those same libs are silent…and some of them openly support this abuse.
Some people really seem to have a victim complex. The poor DNC they are so picked on.
Me I say what goes around comes around. When we turn a blind eye to what our party is doing and lash out at the other side for doing the same thing we deserve what we get.
That there are people that believe that the whole republican party schemed to hurt poor little Hillary. A woman that is as dirty about politics as it gets is funny.
Open your eyes this isn’t a them against us problem. This is a government that has become has full of themselves that they believe they can do what ever they want and their voters will condone it as long as it’s their side doing the dirty deeds.
Nothing published about Hillary changed anyone’s mind about voting for or against her. She has been in politics so long that everyone knew who and what she was.
Trump got elected by people that are tired of the same old crap going on in DC. They are tired of the demonizing of one group or another. The Trump voters I know want people in DC to work on making the US a better place for everyone who is a citizen. They want their lives to come first.
