Doesn’t shock me. The OP creates false narratives and then shoots them down aka creates strawman arguments, and in the process makes disparaging comments about immigrants and poor Americans.
My argument here is actually argue with their narrative, not the fantasy one.
There’s a shortage of tradesmen as it stands, from barbers & beauticians to plumbers & HVAC techs.
Some individuals just aren’t going to be able to do college level work, and others just don’t wish to do it. They need a viable alternative in marketable trades they can earn enough for themselves anywhere they choose to live.
I’d also like to say there are those who can do college level work but would fail miserably at tradesman level work. You should see what it takes in Florida to get a gas license, a contractor license, etc. It makes college look like a breeze.
“Most people do not wake up one day and say, “You know what I want to do in life? Live off the government.” “
Maybe not most people, but have you been anywhere in Massachusetts lately? I’ve lived here for over 15 years now, & have regretted it for a long time. I’ve met far more here who want a handout than I ever did living in Florida.
They consider sticking it to the ex employer via UI rather than looking for another job to be an honor. Various individuals in my workplace who are full timers brag about taking Medicaid when others are having trouble with the group health plans.
Some encourage each other to get Mass Health as secondary insurance. We’ve always been over the income cap for WIC, & I’m a night shift worker, & various individuals asked, when my daughter was a baby, why I didn’t apply for WIC or subsidized daycare (the latter requires proof that you’re working or in school the hours you want that day care voucher).
Worcester area isn’t nearly as bad as Boston, but even here various individuals take advantage of low income homebuying loans—what happened to renting when you cannot afford to buy—and free heat. One able bodied man with no dependents whose electricity was shut off was not encouraged to get a second job, but told “It’s a shame you’re probably making too much for assistance.”
This is exactly the welfare state mindset, in my opinion, that will take over Florida should Andrew Gillum be elected. It’s not a mindset I expect of adults, but more that of small children who want, want, want & just don’t realize that eventually, something just isn’t going to be affordable.
Re college, students can go to junior colleges if they don’t have that minimum GPA, hours of volunteering in the community, & test scores. Am not seeing how those are biased.
They will just have to find another way to finance it as they won’t qualify for that particular state’s program. One member of the Forum got the grades & other qualifications & attends junior college in OK.
Pretty much nobody wants to be on welfare. It’s terrible. I know people who on it or have been on it, and they all say it’s terrible. I have yet to hear one glowing review of that state. I am pretty sure, there are, but the reasons for being on welfare are mostly due to mental illness, disability, and poor life choices. We should be sympathetic to these people, not look down upon.
And I have no disagreements that the liberal model produces dependence. We want people to get out their cycle, not continue to be on one.
You have no issue with supporting systems which allow low-income students the ability to get a community college and/or vocational education, right? You wouldn’t be opposed supporting a system which would allow more low-income students the opportunity to go to college? Am I correct?
What on earth are you talking about? Are you suggesting the paychecks of hard working American citizens living in our nation’s inner cities are not being confiscated by politicians and then used to finance the economic needs of lazy unproductive citizens, in addition to financing the needs of illegal entrants who have broken our laws and invaded the United States?

Socialism is intentionally designed to benefit politicians who confiscate and then redistribute “free government cheese”, while it enslaves those who produce the cheese.
I don’t object to the idea that low income students should have the opportunity to attend college—if they apply themselves academically & volunteer in their communities.
Am also not objecting to hardship loans for those who have achieved in spite of obstacles—ex. Student was a higher achiever combining classes, a job, & taking his divorced mother to and from her cancer treatments.
However I don’t support the idea of higher taxes to pay for everyone to go without paying regardless of income. Some just aren’t cut out to do college level work.
As it stands, many who start degree programs never finish. They’re out a lot of money & have no degree.
Taxpayers paying a lot of money for everyone to attend, many of whom will get only an extension of high school for it & drop out? That to me is wasteful.
As far as various temporary assistance programs, I understand there are mentally & physically disabled who will always need some assistance. However, why should the rest of us be stuck paying for what amount to bad life choices, like additional children that didn’t fit into a budget, or dropping out of high school & not returning for a G E D?
Let applicants be limited to whose on their application at that time & require the acquisition of a G E D for those who lack a high school diploma.
I’m wondering, too, if a screen in urine for Cotinine (nicotine byproduct) should be required to get assistance. Many private companies are requiring it to offset charges for insurance premiums, with a surcharge for those who test positive.
Some aren’t hiring smokers. I go into the sketchy parts of Worcester, & more are smoking than in the more well to do boroughs, so I’m willing to bet many applicants would fail that test & have to complete a smoke enders program while receiving benefits.
I don’t want anyone to go hungry, but am always amazed the money some have for smokes (10.10 a pack here), while even more conservative news sources cite poor, cheaper food choices among these individuals.
Gillum is supported by many members of the Democratic Socialists of America, George Soros, Tom Steyer, and Bernie Sanders, all of whom support using government force to provide government cheese to identifiable groups which is finance by confiscating a portion of hard working and productive citizens’ paychecks.

The unavoidable truth is, the Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ and Andrew Gillum’s socialist plan for “free” college tuition will be paid for by taxing millions of college graduates who worked for and paid their own way through college and are now trying to finance their own economic needs.
Socialism is intentionally designed to benefit politicians who confiscate and then redistribute “free government cheese”, while they enslave those who produce the cheese.
