Doesn’t matter anyway. “African American” only began to appear in the Census in 2000 and was added to the “Black or Negro” checkbox. “Black” and “African American” are one in the same in the eyes of the government, with Caribbean countries specifically included in both the 2000 and 2010 Census explanation guides as being both “Black” and “African American.” They’ll continue to separate the two when there is a political advantage in doing so, however.

Back in 2016, one of the main arguments made by some people I knew for voting for Trump was how well all his children turned out.
