Amazon cancels NYC headquarters because of political opposition

All the local elected officials in the area were open with their disapproval of the project.

They all got elected.

I agree with you on that, I was just saying it looks like according to the Quinnipiac poll most citizens in the area (especially minorities) were for it. But yes your right the politicians in the area didn’t want it.

The politicians in the area don’t want it - and they all just got elected in November.

They were open about there disapproval befofe the election - it was part of their campaigns.

only the looney anti-capitalist left would think of more jobs being a bad thing

i guess thats what happens when employment rate is so high.

in the business sense thats how they should be viewed. even at panera

It depends on what the jobs are.

AOCs criticizm is bad PR and can influence others in govt not to mention customers.

her goal was obviously to keep them out

again, not a narrative. but a real problem for amazon and anyone who wanted a job there. to the tune of maybe 25000 people

even leftist cuomo was upset

Estimate 25000-40000 jobs, not to mention the companies that moved in to either work with Amazon or provide service for the employees.

Average estimate was 3 billion in tax incentives over 10 years for near 30 billion in tax revenue in the same period.

That economy degree of AOC is doing wonders The ironic thing no one here is talking about is how this was massively supported by minorities but opposed by the white liberal elite in Manhattan, good times.

Yeah… of course Cuomo was upset… it was his backroom deal that fell apart.

You know what…just blame AOC… it’s easier.

the kind where people earn money to support their families and the community?

if you’re going to cite a conspiracy as evidence or to support your argument you’re gonna have to do better than that

their campaign promise was to keep jobs out of the area?

i’d like to see that

can you link to their platforms?

I have cited the person who had the actual power over Amazon beyond some mean tweets.

His name is Micheal Gianaris. He sits on the PACB AND is the State representative of that district. Amazon needed to placate him well before they needed to worry about AOC because Gianaris actually has a say whether or not Amazon could build.

But yeah… blame AOC and claim that reality is a conspiracy.

It’s somehow just easier.

you keep missing my point. i dont dispute who actually pulled the levers and switches.

she pushed to turn opinion against them. with the help of her brain-numb colbert mentality media.

its not just me who blames her. THEY blame her. if they thought Gianaris and anyone else involved was an issue they’d post about him too.

In a lot of ways, the opinion was already against them.

A simple Yay or Nay in a poll doesn’t tell the entire story of how people felt about giving a highly profitable company up to $3 Billion in tax breaks to come here when companies like Google have no problem doing a $1 billion expansion in Manhattan without needing any government cheese.

I have stated here myself that it probably would have been a net good to have them here but there are real issues that should be addressed because the entire thing was a backroom deal and when real questions were asked of Amazon instead of addressing them they decided to leave.

That shows me that they weren’t that serious in the first place and probably would have been a terrible corporate entity to have a large footprint in the city.

But you know what… blame it on AOC and Socialism… throw Venezuela in there… it is a lot easier without nuance.

You have no idea what impact she has. Only that she was one of many vocal opponents.

One of her campaign promises was to keep housing affordable.

That would not happen with the HQ.

Jez, how many of those 25,000+ jobs were going to be “family supporting” for the New York area?

I don’t know… for my own industry I was think that Amazon would do more TV/Film production here because of having an HQ.

That was how I was looking for it to affect me… personally.

People who are commenting on this obviously have no real understanding of local politics, the area, or neighborhoods involved and are getting a lot of it filtered down to AOC Socialist BAD!

Even freaking Cher was upset blasting AOC on Twitter, I didn’t think it was possible to be to the left of Cher?
