More or less, doesn’t matter, as long as they flash-freeze it, so I can eat it properly (raw). ![]()
Freezing wild King or Sockeye fresh out of the water is blasphemy IMO. ![]()
Only if you don’t intend to eat it properly (raw). ![]()
Also, I’ve eaten never-frozen salmon many times (raw), and never got sick. Probably just a liability thing.
Now I think I have to go to market…haven’t made some good Sashimi in over a year.
In Missouri ![]()
Yep. Walmart deli section, next to the frozen food isles.
If I want live lobster, I go to Price Cutter instead.
In podunk nowhere. ![]()
Walmart?
They have never frozen been frozen wild salmon?
Any way…once you had King you never go back to Opilio’s.
They have never-frozen salmon, and they have wild salmon, but now you have me questioning the combinations until I go grocery shopping next. lol
ETA: It doesn’t specify if it was never-frozen, though it’s not frozen on the shelves.

Meh much prefer Dungenes crab
Dungenes crab
Dungeness is close second after King.
Either way hands off my crabs.
How many? They are talking about a billion missing not about them not catching a billion.
How much crab do you eat in a year?
How many ears of corn you shuck in a year?
All over the world, the US is not the ONLY market.
I guess it’s just me.
Only crab I eat is soft shells when they are in season or blue claws if we get them fresh. Just not a regular thing for us.
How many ears of corn you shuck in a year?
Oh jeez…2-3 dozen a week during the season…maybe 200?
What does that have to do with what I said?
What does that have to do with what I said?
Dude, relax. I’m making a joke.
When I see boats boats filled with crab I’m always amazed that there is such demand, as it’s a food that I just don’t see alot of , and very rarely eat. Can’t think of the last time I had giant crab legs of any persuasion.
And when you hear a BILLION crabs went missing…dear god…that is a HUGE number. It’s all kind of mind boggling.
But hey, sounds like in this thread alone, we could probably take down a boat full, so it’s just me I guess.
“Did they run up north to get that colder water?” asked Gabriel Prout, whose Kodiak Island fishing business relies heavily on the snow crab population. “Did they completely cross the border?”
How long it take for stories that blame global warming and/or Vladimir Putin for the disappearing crabs?
Well, they have been selling 10-lb boxes of king crab legs sourced from Russia at Costco…
If you were to lose a billion ants, it’d be ok. The ocean is slap full of crab like that.
I do miss gorging on ocean spiders. My personal record was about 4.5 lbs in one sitting.
You would love the weekly all-you-can-eat buffet at the Grand Aleutian in Dutch Harbor. Barrels of huge crab legs.
Even in Alaska, where they all come in, they’re close to 40 bucks a pound.
