All the more reason that a helicopter should not fly the through the approach/departure path. Even in controlled airport airspace where all aircraft are required to have air traffic control clearance to fly, it is the responsibility of the helicopter pilot to avoid collision with fixed wing aircraft.
The voice recorder from the helicopter should be interesting.
