Airliner and Blackhawk collide mid air. Breaking

It appears an army Blackhawk helicopter flew directly at an airliner that was on approach, exploding into a fireball and both crashing into the Potomac river.

News is spotty and breaking. 100ish passengers on the flight and no casualty report at this time.

I was watching video of that earlier. Reports are not looking good.

The Airforce also lost an F35 at Eielson AFB today. Fortunately, the pilot ejected and was unhurt.

Devastating tragedy.
I feel for the families of the pasengers.

Horrible. The commercial airliner was on final getting ready to land. I don’t think the UH-60 pilots ever saw the other aircraft or saw a different one.

When i visited dc i could not believe the amount of air traffic. It seemed it was one right after the other landing.

I guess nobody saw all those bright lights before they collided. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Devastating tragedy in a very congested and complex airspace.

It’s a tribute to airline safety in the US that with thousands of packed flights every day, this is the biggest loss of life since 2001.

There were 60 passengers and 4 flight crew on the jet. Supposedly 3 in the blackhawk.

If you watch the video it looks like the blackhawk just flies into the jet. What were they looking at? It looks intentional.

No survivors. Over 30 bodies have already been pulled from the river.

The conspiracy theories are in full effect on X

Please pray for all the families and people involved.

What a tragedy.

Hopefully everyone can be identified and the families given some measure of peace.

Flying around DC at night is like looking at a lit up Christmas tree; there’s lights everywhere!
On the ground, the horizon etc. As I understand pilots have to take training just to fly in and out of DC.
Someone got a hold of a recording of the CJA and UH-60 pilots in contact with the tower. A flight “expert” commented the pilots knew the other were out there. It’s been reported the UH-60 pilots were on night vision doing a requirement training flight. I’m still of the opinion they didn’t see the aircraft closer to them thinking who they were talking to was further out.
It’s too late when the “Oh ■■■■■ time happens.

That crossed my mind. I thought it looked intentional too.

Doesn’t mean it was, but externally it looked that way to me. The chopper just flying right at the airliner.

Having a hard time closing the loop on allowing low level cross traffic through the final approach pattern for an active runway.

After another press question Trump says he doesn’t know what caused it but also it was DEI hirings because of common sense.

A little early, no investigation into the experience, documented job performance, or specific actions taken by the responsible ATC staff on duty.

What I am wondering is why a helo with an operating ceiling of 19,000 feet was making a low level crossing of the final approach path of an active runway.

That is a completely unhelpful and irresponsible thing for him to say

My bet is an ATC failure.

Good old Trump blaming the dems and DEI even though he says he doesnt know what caused it.

And the bullcrap he said about restoring faith in flying. No one has lost faith in flying in the US.

But his supporters will clap along and now the reason for the crash will be DEI , but hey why accept facts and wait for an investigation to be completed when you can blame DEI.

They are still recovering â– â– â– â– â– â– â–  bodies.
