This is pretty meaningless.
Here is the list given of prominent āpreexisting conditionsā.
Influenza and pneumonia
Respiratory failure
Hypertensive disease
Diabetes
Vascular and unspecified dementia
Cardiac Arrest
Heart failure
Renal failure
Intentional and unintentional injury, poisoning and other adverse events
Other medical conditions
These probably take in everyone in the world. High blood pressure and diabetes take in 60% of people over 50. āOther medical conditionsā will take in the rest of the population.
Finally, some sanity. This is a good and correct post.
We are going to lose 300,000+ Americans in 2020 alone to COVID. 20,000 of them may have been considered 100% healthy in every single regard. The rest may have had some other health condition from which COVID hastened their demise.
High blood pressure? High cholesterol? Obesity? Diabetes? All of which would be considered health conditions contributing to death from COVID. If a 60 year old man on blood pressure medication contracts COVID and dies, then he would be listed as having a health condition that contributed to his death. Would he have died this year without COVID and from his high blood pressure that is regulated with medicine? Probably not.
And now we have some here cheering as if this means COVID is not as horrible as it actually is. Itās ā ā ā ā ā ā ā insane. We have peopleĀ© in this country that have lost their ā ā ā ā ā ā ā marbles. No connection to reality. Worms have officially devoured brains.
Doesnāt even begin with the long term ramifications of those that survive either; strokes, neurologic issues, cardiac issues, amputations, etc

There are a ton of people with underlying ailments.
I have high blood pressure that I treat with medication.
If I were to get Covid, I would be at higher risk though it would not be a death sentence but if I were to die, my high blood pressure would be a contributing factor.
So I, am otherwise healthy guy, would have an underlying factor that would contribute to my death if I were to contract Covid.
I would think the number of Americans with some type of underlying condition is almost as high as those without.

No, they died because they caught Covid. The excess mortality for 2020 is already over 200,000.

Not true.
I know thatās the latest talking point being bandied about, but had these guys not caught COVID, they likely would not have died.
Same thing happens if they catch the flu and die of complicationsā¦we attribute flu as a CoD.
With COVID, this happens at a rate 5-6x greater then the flu, however.

I take it some what seriously since i have one of those underlying side issues but i refuse to cower in fear from it.
I do what I think is reasonable NOT what the left demands we do.
So far i havenāt even had the normal cold for over 18 months. Knock on wood.
I m currently being evaluated for some kind of auto immune conditionā¦lupus and rheumatoid arthritis have both been mentionedā¦I guess Iāll wait and see what the dr says.
But again imho this virus aināt going away. You can postpone college football until the springā¦what are you going to do in the spring when itās still in our lives? Hide in a hole???
No!
We need to get back to living.
There will be a vaccine in spring. Better to wait until then than risk lives for a game.
This should be a call to be healthier. Ya know, take care of yourself and avoid diseases caused by your behavior. Itāll save your life.

Well we eat out (usually where the fewest cars are parked outside) , go to church(small congregation with social distancing), grocery shop (with masks), and of course i still go to the shooting range.
I have the type 2 diabetes. Well under control with a 5.8 a1c but still thatās a problem concerning the virus.
My theory is youāve either had it, youāve got it or you are going to get it.
We ve all been wearing those stupid masks all summer and people are still getting sick. I m no dr but it seems the bottom line is there are citizens who need special care but until the rest of us are allowed to develop some immunity we as a country are just running on an extra fast treadmill going no where.
You have a lot of good points there.

I am a hospital employee and we have protocols to protect ourselves and patients from spreading disease. That being said, I was still exposed to Covid. I have high blood pressure and an autoimmune disease and am not a spring chicken ā¦and it was like a cold. It wasnāt even as bad as the flu. Those that live in my house got it as well. My husband also has health issues. We all had nothing more than a cold.
Yes, many people have been really sick and have had to be hospitalized.
But we also need to stop spreading fear and panic. The majority of people who have gotten the virus have had symptoms like my family experienced or were even asymptomatic.
No matter how careful you are, even if you wear PPE, you are going to come into contact with other human beings who may give you this virus. Unless, you never leave your house, never let anyone in.
Iām glad you and your family are OK.
When you say it was a cold, did it take the typical path of headache/sore throat > Nasal Congestion > Upper respiratory congestion and cough?
Or did it still have the aches and pains associated with the flu, but in a milder form?
I ask because a someone I have been in contact with claims they only have a cold - offering up no fever, no body aches, and their illness following the traditional path of the cold - and Iām trying to figure out wether I should instead treat my contact as if they have COVID.
Yeah those flu vaccines donāt keep everyone from getting it. It helps maybe.

Itās actually pretty divesting that this one virus effects such a wide range of conditions that it can be fatal to any number of them.
But no matter how you slice it, 180K americans are dead because they caught the virus. There is no solace in knowing most of them also were obese, or had diabetes, or had asthma, or had a heart conditionā¦
