He isn’t claiming that anything in the USMCA will directly pay for the wall.
He is claiming that because of him, Mexico will be sending us a lot more than they have in the past and that indirectly helps to pay for the wall. He’s not wrong. he trade balance willbe much improved and they will be adding to our coffers over what they would have.
Without his election there is ZERO reason to believe that NAFTA would have been superceded. Donlad Trump is getting a ton more out of Mexico and I’m happy wth that.
He is wrong… the benefits of the new trade deal will go to companies who trade with Mexico.
We have no idea if the new trade deal is a net benefit over nafta. Judging by the trade deficit increase… I am not holding my breath that it will be a better deal.
Trump so far has proven his deal making skills are bunk.
That’s just not true. A better balance of trade means increased work for Americans and that means increased revenue for the coffers.
The deal on paper is clearly better than NAFTA. It hasn’t been put in place, yet, so you cannot say it is failed, just becaseut the balance of trade is still bad.
Wait for it to actually get approved and then kick in.
But what policy changes in it specifically make it so much better than NAFTA? I know Donald says Mexico will be “sending us a lot more” but he tends to just say whatever is convenient to him in the moment regardless of fact.
You’re asking me for something that hasn’t really been aired yet. Trump has made trade policy a huge part of his administration. He will be scored on it and remembered for it and he will also run on it in 2010.
I guarantee that it is better than NAFTA, but that wouldn’t be hard to accomplish. It’s just that he is the first one to try to accomplish it.
I think Plasma is actually pointing out the fact that the NY field office was completely obsessed with Clinton, the kind of bias you claim exists in DC and think is a huge problem there.
So you actually have no idea? It’s not a big secret. That’s why trade experts and economists have been able to look at it and say the changes are window dressing at best.
You’ve just decided to take the word of a guy who’s business career consists of defrauding students of his fake university, ripping off shareholders of the public corporation he started after he drove a bunch of casinos bankrupt, and has a reputation for stiffing his contractors. I really would not advise holding your breath for big changes, personally.
