There are a few facts that around the history of the Confederate statues and the “Lost Cause” narrative that people have pushed for over a century now that are really inconvenient to your argument.
And as such they were willing to go to war, fight in appalling conditions, struggle for four long miserable years, and in the process destroy the beautiful southern homeland. The Confederacy were not southern patriots. They brought my beloved south ruin for the next century and with it Jim Crow and many of the racial issues we still fight over. There is nothing to be proud of in regards to that era for southerners.
