Sad but true.
There is always politics in national soccer. There always will be. In this case a double whammy. The lingering fight for equality. The women’s side now has 4 cups and is responsible for all 4 stars on the national crest. The men’s side has none and failed to qualify for the last Olympics and last world cup. But they are paid more and supported better.
Secondly is the newer fight for LGBTQ+ rights. That is pretty self-explanatory.
I expect few if any of the team will accept an invite to the white house. If there even is one.
Donald said he would, win or lose. We’ll see. He did take the time to tweet out congratulations.
And to think the US men couldnt even manage to qualify themselves for the last world cup.
If they win tonight it’ll at least give some hope for the next one. Still remains to be seen if they make the Olympics this time.
