Will there ever be another Bond movie…

So I know I tend to take things too seriously…

Thought I might offer up something on the lighter side.

I saw this story last night on Foxnews.com. Headline “ ‘007’ series in turmoil as producers, Amazon can’t agree on franchise: ‘I don’t think James Bond is a hero’”

“ The next installment in the “James Bond” franchise is still in development limbo due to a rift between the series’ main producer and its new owners, Amazon.

In a report from The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and Amazon — which bought MGM studios in 2021 — are in an “ugly stalemate” over decisions about the future of the franchise. These include decisions on whether Bond should be turned into a streaming series, or more philosophical ones, like whether the titular character is even a hero.

“I have to be honest, I don’t think James Bond is a hero,” one Amazon executive said during a recent meeting about upcoming Bond content, the outlet reported. That quote seemed to point to Broccoli’s fear that Amazon does not understand the very character that she has dedicated her career to.”

It’s been three years since they blew up Daniel Craig in No Time to Die…

Full disclosure and I’m not the only person obviously but I’ve always loved 007 movies. I m pretty sure I’ve seen every one…

Sean Connery was great…set the standard before they had all the tech that showed up in recent movies. Roger Moore was more lighthearted, kinda campy but fun. I actually like the one George Lazenby and two right? Timothy Dalton’s. One my tablet for watching on airplanes I’ve got two Pierce Brosnan’s and two Daniel Craig’s.

If Amazon (the exec who said he’s not a hero is an idiot) intends to just screw up the franchise with a bunch of woke politically correct spin offs then please just don’t. 007 needs to be the charming suave sophisticated wise cracking British agent who’s save the world 50 times since the 60’s.

Anyway, leave it to me to take light hearted too seriously but there you go.

I’m a Bond fan, but I intentionally skipped the last couple. With all of the political correctness crap, I no longer recognized the character. I simply lost interest.

They drifted no question but I still enjoyed them. Imho Daniel Craig is a really good actor.

The last one to be honest was kinda hard to follow how the virus got transferred from person to person…

I’d love to see the series continued but not with a bunch of star wars esque streaming spin offs…

Those things to me ruined that franchise

They killed him in the last one, so as far as I’m concerned, no.

I’m a huge Bond fanatic. But I have absolutely no faith in Amazon to do any justice to the character considering how Rings of Power has turned out.

For those who haven’t seen it, if you like Lord of Rings, steer very clear of it.

But I will say that I wouldn’t necessarily call Bond a hero in the traditional sense, at least if you’ve read some of the early books like I have. Fleming never intended for him to be seen as a traditional hero. He’s gruff, rough around the edges, doesn’t do things because it’s right or wrong but solely based on the needs of the mission. And I think the Dalton and Craig films did the best of capturing that element of Bond. Although with Craig they made him a bit too introspective. I think Dalton honestly captured the part perfectly, but he only got two movies to show it off.

With that said, I’m the biggest fan of the Brosnan movies because I grew up with them and that’s what got me into Bond in the first place. I even like Tomorrow Never Dies, and that’s considered one of the lower films in the franchise. I do agree with the general outlook on Die Another Day though. That movie sucked and it sucks that that is what Brosnan went out on. Because while Dalton is my ideal Bond based on the book character, Brosnan really embodies the spirit of the early Connery films in a more modern setting.

While I had issues with that movie, I actually really loved the underlying conflict in Bond and how it ended. How he handled his last mission made perfect sense considering that the stakes were so personal for once. And in the end, he couldn’t walk away from it. He had to accept it.

I haven’t read the early books that might be a Christmas present from me to me!

They’re really good, if a bit dry.

Bond is as dead as LOTR.

I’m older than you. 65…I remember more Roger Moore’s than I do Sean Connery’s as a kid….

MOOREs if you go back and watch some of them now tended to be…campy is I think a good word even had sone silly moments…Brosnan had way less of that.

Didn’t he come kinda straight from that Remington Steele was it detective show to James Bond. Kind of a big step up

Ya know I actually rewatched Goldeneye last night (it was on movie station on Pluto TV) and one thing that movie really got right that a ton of modern movies of any kind tend to get wrong is that it introduced a very strong female character in a matter that told you that she wasn’t to be trifled with but didn’t belittle Brosnan’s Bond to make her stronger than she actually was. I’m talking about Judi Dench’s M. Fantastic character and a great example of a naturally strong, empowered female major character. And they didn’t need to belittle Bond or any of the male characters to introduce her.

She was very much his intellectual and ideological equal during their time together in the movie but they never belittled Bond in any kind of way. Too many modern movies think you have to belittle men to make women look strong. And Goldeneye is pure proof that isn’t necessary. So long as you have an actress with the chops playing her, it works out.

I’m ok with some of Moore’s films. Many of them feel like more parodies sometimes but they can be fun.

And I really like Live and Let Die, his first Bond movie. Mainly because it’s hilarious watching Bond be called a Honkey for the entire movie.

Bond is a historical character… since the world in which Bond could have existed no longer exists, the stories feel too fantastical

I like what M called him in Goldeneye. A Misogynistic relic of the Cold War she had no issue sending to his death. One of the funnier parts of the movie honestly.

Live and Let Die is one of my favorites of all the Bond films. It’s hilarious how he maintains his bearings in the Filet of Soul with all the animosity he’s catching.

Everybody know that deep down Bond was a black guy in a white guys body.

My dad had the cheapo paperbacks with their sensational covers, so I ended up reading a few of them when I was way too young. The character in the books is a rough-cut ■■■■■■■ in a lot of ways. I always thought Daniel Craig did the darker stuff really well. Clive Owen would’ve worked, too. I like the idea that 007 is a category/designation, not a specific person.

I always thought that circa-1985 Mel Gibson—rough and crazy, but also impossibly beautiful back then—would’ve been a great Bond for that era. And I wish Amy Winehouse had lived to do a Bond theme-song.

Quentin Tarantino had wanted to do Casino Royale in its original time period, which made me think: if I owned the rights and had piles of money to set on fire, I’d just find interesting directors and say, “Here’s your budget. Go nuts.”

Idris Elba: a great What if? He’d ■■■■■■■ crush that role.

Dalton was a brilliant Bond and in my opinion better than Connery.
