My guess would likely be no, but with the potential for two very poor choices (in the minds of many) running against each other again, maybe the improbable becomes possible? Could we have a president Joe Manchin?
Manchin has not publicly ruled out running for the president, saying that he is not running for president “today” in February and that he was “not taking anything off the table” in March. The centrist Democrat has been a part of the No Labels group since 2010, and the group is looking to get on the ballot in all 50 states for a possible presidential candidate in 2024.
I would say Donald Trump should run as a third party candidate. But that’s the kind of thing reserved for real billionaires with big hands. So I don’t see it happening.
It will be a definitely no. These 2 parties have a very good con game going. Their moves are pre reheased just like wwe. They wont stand for a third party schmuck to come in and mess it up.
As much as I would like to see at least two more parties to choose from, the GOP and Democrats have such a stranglehold on the system there is little chance. It would have to be brought about by super rich donors and it’s formation started way before the general election.
It’s odd we haven’t seen it they pop up all the time around the world some do quiet well, they can’t even get off the ground here. I say two new parties that way both parties would bleed support not just one it might work that way.
I think back to Ross Perot, and if I remember correctly there was a point where it looked like he had a genuine shot to pull it off. Was there ever a time in which the two (likely) established party candidates were so unpopular? Trump has no shot as there are too many people in the key swing states who absolutely will not vote for him no matter what. But if Biden continues to slide as well a third party candidate may just pull it off.
Yeah, Ross Pero got like 20% of the popuar vote, but not a single electoral vote. And that is why a third party run doesn’t work in our system
Heck, the most notable third party run was from a candidate whose likeness is chiseled into Mount Rushmore. He did better than Perot, but didn’t even come close.
I know the end result, but what I was alluding to was that, if I remember correctly, he was actually leading both Clinton and Bush at one point. His poll numbers started to slip as people got to see how wacky he was and then at some point I believe he even dropped out of the race.
Good ol’ Ross. We can rightly blame him for eight years of Bill Clinton which led to eight years of Hillary Clinton in the Senate and four years as Secretary of State under Obama. It’s difficult to pin anything else specifically on him, but I venture that America and the World this Century would be far different had he not run as a spoiler.
America needs a Plan B in the form of a centrist presidential ticket. The organization No Labels is already working on it by securing a third line on the presidential ballot in all 50 states. While there is no candidate tied to the effort yet, No Labels has proposed a “unity ticket” featuring a moderate Democrat and a moderate Republican as running mates.
No Labels will invoke this ticket only if the two major parties continue to abandon the silent majority come Super Tuesday of next year, when it will be clear whether a Trump vs. Biden rematch is imminent. At that time, No Labels would pull from its deep benches in both parties (the organization founded the prominent Problem Solvers Caucus in Congress, which has many household-name members) to assemble its centrist unity ticket.
The numbers are on the side of this unity ticket, with almost 60% of Americans saying they would consider a moderate independent in the event of a Trump vs. Biden rematch. The ticket might need just over one-third of the vote to win. You wouldn’t know it from listening to the media, but more Americans identify as independents than as either Democrats or Republicans.
