Your 100% correct when saying populists promise more than they can achieve.
It will be epic chaos the Bernie bro’s on twitter which they they basically have an army of people to harass others who don’t share the Bern, against an army of 4chan right wing meme pros who will be pumping them daily. I saw this one the other day which I think would summarize the battle from the right.
Of course there are those like myself that have paid into Medicare since it became law in 1965 and who with jobs after retirement still pay into Medicare. So here comes comrade Sanders without as much as a thank you and wants to hand out a free lunch?
Free education?
That’s a fluff phrase for crappy education.
Two of our kids went in the Army for their higher education. Another finished with two graduate degrees. She worked through 7 years of school, borrowed and paid back her student loans. Yes, promises of free stuff motivates who again?
Canadians? Indians? Norwegians?
Just kidding - the entire world is lazy and unmotivated because they don’t have to join the military or pay off a six-figure student loan debt.
An “actual Socialist” that doesn’t advocate for the public ownership of the means of production. How interesting.
Well, I didn’t pay a dime for college (my parents paid it all) and yet I was motivated enough to graduate magna cum laude in computer science and now I’m a director of engineering comfortably in the top quintile of household earners 12 years later.
Oooo Bernie love rich peoples money!
I don’t think much is going to change here. Your taxes were already giving “free lunch” via medicaid.
It’s the same education, just paid for via tax dollars. They aren’t opening special subpar schools.
I personally would rather pay more in taxes in exchange for not having to save up for my children’s college education.
Excellent point.
The care of seniors will suffer if everyone is now on Medicare.
Doctors don’t want medicare patients as it is.

College students are adults.
What about trade schools and blue collar training?
Those areas need a break first.

And?
Trade schools are included.
Adults make decisions on debt.
Focus tax assistance to trades first. Much better value. Taxpayers won’t stand paying 50000 for an art or social science degree.
Medicaid programs for those who qualify are managed by individual states and have their own networks of providers. Your assertion “your taxes are paying for Medicaid” is correct. So, why the need to expand the Medicare federal program again? To raise federal taxes? To (again) increase the divide between those who can pay for selective doctors (like the lawmakers), and those who are forced to use “system providers”? To reduce the number of providers who no longer afford to maintain a practice because of the dramatic reduction in Medicare payments? Overburden existing healthcare centers so those seeking care wait their turn?
If you join a union it’s free. I came out of my apprenticeships with no debt. Am glad to pay my dues to help carry out that tradition. People bitch about dues but have to realize this is part of them. Definitely not all political.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a good old fashioned Communist vs Capitalist campaign.
It appears that trades are in more of a labor crunch than any other sector.
This is where I want to see the focus
You make a good point on unions covering training. I am 100% for this, I find union trades to be a good value.
We can promote and fund a lot more blue collar employment before I would even consider a blanket college debt bailout.

One of the boys in the family went to a public HS here that has trade education; his was the HVAC/ Mechanical program. He’s a Journeyman working toward his Masters License with a great Mechanical Maintenance Contracting Co., benefits, company truck and earns about six figures annually. The boy isn’t 30 years old yet and bought his first home a couple of years ago. His is not an unusual story, there are thousands of stories like his.
Bet me trades education hasn’t been a benefit and other than local taxes that fund the school system? There are companies that give the HS students in the trades programs after school and summer jobs fer crissakes and the goobermint gets to suck on their paychecks with tax withholdings!
So why are the socialists promising free stuff for everyone again??
The local IBEW here has English speaking classes for workers that need it. Seems that becoming an electrician or electrical worker isn’t attractive to lazy ass white boys who want to live in Mommy and Daddy’s basement playing video games or trolling Hannity all day.
So what?
I’m not informed enough on the topic to argue this. I would think we should target both since not everyone’s career goals are satisfied by just one or the other.
Because if you expand Medicare to cover everyone than Medicaid is redundant.
If the goal is to just raise federal taxes than why take the tougher road of expanding a medical care program instead of just raising taxes?
I’m opposed to a system where those with extra money can get access to exclusive doctors.
If that’s an issue it should be addressed. Obviously if doctors can’t afford to maintain their practice because of a reduction in payments then the payments need to be raised. It would be counterproductive to create a program that causes doctors to go out of business. Why would someone do that?
That’s also a strange goal? Why do you think the goals of Medicare for All would be to intentionally make things worse?
The idea is a system that replaces the current for profit health insurance system so if, hypothetically speaking, everyone (individuals and businesses) is paying the same amount they paid in the old system into the new system you have the money that was being paid out to medical providers plus the money that previously went towards profit. Probably help to also recoup some of the money paying all these health insurance CEOs million dollar plus salaries.
