Why do we need a Jan 6 commission?

No nonpartisan investigation was proposed.

The question was not if he got away, but if he was cleared.
You were in the thread about the Tulsa vigilantes 100 years ago.
They were not prosecuted.
Does that mean they were cleared of wrongdoing?

Because it’s likely to expose some Republican shenanigans. That how the game of politics is okaywd

In the eyes of law yes. They suffered no consequences for their actions for the duration of their entire lives.

Non starter. There is no such thing as a nonpartisan Congressional investigation. It is literally impossible

It could be handled like the House Ethics committee, with equal numbers from each party. That would at lease retain some credibility.

It also could be handled by the House Homeland Security Committee with an equal number of Republicans and Democrats. The same committee that has aleady been dealing with this in some capacity.

Why would that be any less credible than the Ethics Committee?

Note: I said “could be handled like the House Ethics committee”, not “handled by the House Ethics committee”.
We are not in disagreement here.

Yeah but Republicans are not going to be happy that it’s this particular committee. But I also believe one of the options will likely be the option of a second vote in the Senate which Republicans would be wise to take. The ranking Republican nember on the Homeland Security Committee voted both for impeachment and for the bipartisan commission. He won’t stonewall and there won’t be a good argument that this wasn’t a Homeland Security issue.

*And yes Antifa and the 2020 summer riots is also something the House Homeland Security Committee should be looking into but it should be a seperate investigation.

The equal number from each party thing got voted down by the Republicans

Yeah but Schumer left the door open for another vote if Republicans should change their mind. I’m thinking it happens if Pelosi announces the HHSC handles things in the house.

My opinion is they should let the vote stand and each chamber investigate it independently. It’s what McConnell would do if the situation was reversed.

In the House for a House committee? Reference for that vote? You are not mixing that with the Senate voting to not join in at all, I am sure.
If you are, there is nothing preventing a House committee from being bipartisan, in order to add some degree of credibility.

The House committee that is going to get the investigation will be bipartisan but most Republicans are not going to be happy about it. The Republican ranking member (John Katko) of the House Homeland Security Committee thinks Trump’s actions after the election were impeachable. So did Republican HHSC member Peter Mehjer. That’s 2 of the 12 Republicans on the committee that voted to impeach. All 18 Democratic members of the HHSC voted to impeach.

This is the ranking Republican on the HHSC. He will not allow it to be stonewalled like Trump hopes.

The House Homeland Security Committee has 18 Democratic members and 14 Republican members. 2 of those 14 Republicans voted to impeach Trump over his post election conduct including the ranking Republican member John Katko. This committee also holds the power to supeona witnesses

The only chance for equal members from each party was voted down by Senate Republicans

No vote is needed. The decision on what committee gets the investigation now belongs to the Speaker of the House

Lame nonsense.

Exactly. They will be there to give cover to the D coverup.

Good question. I think the answer is deflection and narrative shaping.

No stacked deck there…LOL.

This will knock inflation headlines to page 6.

The only way it can be revisited is if new evidence comes to light.

So why bother? Libs don’t need it to believe the predestined outcome and cons won’t accept it because it’s biased. It will be a total waste of time.
