I agree the asylum system was abused. However the “first country” option is a misconception.
There is no legal international mandate that requires that. The US has some bilateral deals with other countries but they is nothing legally required.
But that is a moot point because for now the US is not accepting Asylum Seekers.
Right it will be interesting to see how this all pans out.
True. We will still have imperfection as compared to mass intentional disruption of the immigration system and the constant lying to maintain that disruption.
And that improvement in enforcement is the single biggest achievement the Trump administration is likely to have.
Too bad all the costs and problems the Biden administration lies will have created.

There are approximately 1,400,000 illegals who have had their hearings and been told they cannot legally stay in the US, but have stayed anyway. Along with those who have committed other crimes, these are now on the list of those being sought for actual removal…now.

We can look at other times we have tried to limit immigrants from Mexico.
Noted you say “give then a decent life”. This is not the criteria for asylum, nor is it something we can afford to offer to the entire rest of the world. We have enacted immigration laws through congress to determine how many and on what criteria can come here.

There were people coming from nearly 200 ■■■■■■■ countries showing up at the border seeking asylum. God knows how many countries they were passing over to get to the US.

The first country option is logically assumed as it simply makes logical sense that if one is genuinely concerned about being killed their simply looking for the quickest place for safety. It also is the case that people are to ideally first look at safe havens in their own countries. Answer this question for me, can an American seek asylum in another country?
The two parties are SO FAR APART on this issue there really isn’t any common ground. On the one hand the overwhelming majority (if not all) of Democrats were 100% fine with what Harris/Biden were doing on the border by paroling into the country millions and millions of unvetted phony asylum seekers from all over the world including murderers, rapists, gang members, terrorists, and all other sorts of criminals. On the other hand the overwhelming majority (if not all) of Republicans are perfectly fine with how Trump is handling the border with encounters falling below 100 per day.
