According to forum libs most if not all of the problems in America boil down to the following:
Reaganomics (for @Guilds this is the reason for everything wrong with America)
White privilege, White supremacy, racism, heck white people in general
Since all these countries that these migrants are fleeing do not have these problems on would logically expect that they would be great places to live. Doesn’t make any sense?
My question is why does the left keep yammering about slavery in the US 150 years ago while ignoring slavery that is going on today.
Only explanation is that it was never about slavery.
Or maybe they are just cowards. Willing to spout platitudes where it is nice an safe but actually stand up for something where it is happening? Not a chance.
The answer you will eventually get is that these places would all be like the garden of Eden except for colonialism…and capitalism is, of course, the same thing as colonialism.
There’s a few reasons those countries generally suck. And it’s way more complicated than either the left or right to admit. It’s a mixture of everything under the sun.
Well, look at the illegal invaders. Largely illiterate with no marketable skills. There’s a percentage of downright despicable criminals who preyed on their own in their home country. Now, on the “leaders” of those countries. They’re criminals too but smarter than the others. These geniuses promise the people then give them just enough to keep them happy. And they just love handouts from America. And America is dumb enough for whatever reason to give it to them.
They may not speak English but I wouldn’t assume they are mostly illiterate
And most have skills that the US needs. However sometimes it’s not about skill you bring it is also about drive to gain new skills. Lots of immigrants bring that drive and determination.
But there’s also a significant part of the American lower class that would probably try to compete for those same jobs, too. And they have the drive and determination as well. Shouldn’t we cater to them before we cater to the rest of the world?
Being poor in some US states sucks almost as bad. However, I would agree that it is better than being poor in some other 3rd world country.
I just have a cousin, his wife and new born move to California (From Montgomery AL) to live my Aunt (my cousins mom). She is middle class with a modest home she bought in the 90s.
My cousin and I talked and he was floored with how many resources are available to poor people in LA. He was surprised at food kitchens have fresh produce, for example.
Being working poor is honestly the worse. You often don’t qualify for state assistance because, hey, you have a job, but you don’t make enough money to really get ahead. That’s why so many people end up leaving states like Alabama and Mississippi. I wish the leadership would recognize what a brain drain that is on the state.
Still, I’d argue that even the poorest states are better than any third world country. When you look at GDP metrics, it kind of bears that out. Mississippi is the poorest state in the Union, bottom of the barrel by US standards of GDP output. But its actually competitive, in terms of pure GDP and GDP per capita, with most European countries. That’s insane cause it doesn’t feel that way, I do live here. But that’s what the stats show.
I guess it really depends on the safety net. Being working poor in most European countries is alot better than being working poor in Mississippi, since you will still qualify for assistance like you don’t here. But if you do manage to get ahead, you can live really good here due to the cost of living being relatively low.
