Where's the talk about the MLB?

^^ This.

I used to love baseball for the strategy involved. Hit and run, productive outs etc. Now, like you said every hitter is swinging for the fences and it seems as though every pitcher throws 95+

I love baseball but I think competitive balance is a real issue. I hate to bring it back to politics but I think MLB needs a (socialist) salary cap like other sports leagues have. This would actually benefit the owners more than the players, but I think it needs to be done. Attendance and interest are down, particularly with teams such as the Reds and Orioles that are horrible and wonā€™t be better anytime soon. The Orioles are currently 38-94, are in the toughest division in baseball, and have one of the worst farm systems according to MILB.com. Why would anyone pay money to watch them get destroyed for years to come?

I agree. However I donā€™t see the salary cap in sports as socialist as the owners arenā€™t really competing against each other financially.

The socialism thing was mostly a joke. I used to think that having a few juggernauts like the Yankees was kind of fun, like trying to take down the evil empire. But Iā€™ve changed my tune. Too many teams are content to lose year after year.

Iā€™m not sure all these teams are content to keep losing. Most just donā€™t have to financial resources to bid on top FAs like NY, Bos, LA etc.

Not all of them, but in my opinion too many are content to lose. Either way, the solution is the same: a salary cap combined with a salary floor.

As long as they donā€™t go full Sarcastaball

But hereā€™s something to blend topic and digression:

He was attempting to make it a racial thing implying that Hannity board members are racist white dudes who only watch sports that are still played mostly by white athletes.

Have you never seen any of his posts??

As you see huge athletes jack each other up tonight, leading with their shoulders instead of their helmets, tell me if it looks like two hand touch to you.

Better yet, get on the sidelines during a college football game and tell me if you think itā€™s soft.

Btw, the NFL starts tonight. I hope no one here misses the game.

You missed my point all together, I was referring to the rule changes, how the heck do you throw your shoulder into someone making a tackle without your head not being involved? Itā€™s still a judgement and depends on the angle your seeing it from. As far as college ball my 34 year old son played at Pitt and started two years at outside LB, graduated ā€˜08 so Iā€™d say Iā€™m somewhat familiar with the college game.

So did your son play two-hand touch for two years?

Are the majority of the hits from then still legal now?

I have a feeling some Trump supporters who claim to not watch the NFL might just be fibbing.

No he played four years and started two, my point which I guess Iā€™m going to have and draw you map, all the rules as far as hits go are getting to the point the game has become watered down somewhat. Itā€™s a great game a brutal and violent game not for the faint of heart. I understand the risk as every player does, my son has a great take on the rules like targeting & leading with crown of your helmet, he says itā€™s a reaction game that is built on seconds and inches and you donā€™t have time to size up your hit, if you take that time with speed in the game the ball carrier is by you and that seems where the powers that be are wanting the game to go. He was coached this is my side of the field, when you come over here the first time Iā€™m going to make sure you know whatā€™s coming if you do it again. And the rules donā€™t let you do that anymore.

I can see where you got that out of my football rules post.

Iā€™m not totally against a salary cap, but Iā€™d rather have no cap than a strict salary cap. A cap doesnā€™t do anything to make the bad teams better, it just doesnā€™t allow for really good teams. If you spread the talent too thin you get a mediocre product.

If it were up to me the NFL for example would have the same cap except quarterbacks wouldnā€™t be counted against the cap. That would give teams room to spend to build a good team but at the same time not be unlimited.

so, you posted this ^ and also that football is gonna be two hand touch.

which is it?

Yeah, lots.

But I really do try to not be as suspicious as I might be. And please keep in mind that I look at the Left at this time as a perfect storm of what C.S.Lewis called inner circles, only as mindlessly cascading series of circles of being in the in group rather than just one overarching inner circle as Lewis considered or wrote of in That Hideous Strength.

Also, as far as I knew maybe there had been a lot of NASCAR or hockey threads.

Well, I wasnā€™t watching for years before now.

I do like college and high school ball though! Lots cheaper, you can go a whole season of high school ball with eats for the price of one Cowboyā€™s ticket.

Also, running games are more fun to watch.
