Actually, the concept of polytheism has been far more prevalent in history than monotheism. Since you seem to be making the argument that most cultures have acknowledged god/s then you should go with the majority and believe in a pantheon of gods.
Sounds like you found what you were looking for. Congrats, I guess.
I prefer letting the facts lead me.
I tend to trust.
Like many, I grew up in a religious household - Lutheran to be exact.
My best friend became an atheist. Didn’t bother me at all. He didn’t really try and convert me. But the more I learned about science, the scientific method, and logic…the less I could defend belief in God. Until one day, I realized my belief was just me trying to hold on to my childhood and traditions.
It is true that with your religion you carry a lot of social, emotional, and philosophical “baggage” that needs to be addressed when you no longer believe. I remember when I realized I know longer believed, the moment, how empty and lost I felt. But with hard work, research, and courage I developed my own philosophies and views on life. I bet many people are scared of that internally and use their traditions as a safety blanket.
I Had a dad
Big and strong
Turned around
Found my daddy gone
He was the one
Made me what I am today
It’s up to me now
My daddy has gone away…
If you see my dad
Tell him my brothers
All gone mad
They’re beating on each other
I walked around
Even tried to call
Got that funny feeling
He’s not there
At all…
Yes, Paul had the OT in mind (but you disagree with him, especially on Genesis. He interpreted Adam and Eve as literal persons).
But the Christian church universal agreed the New Testament, including Paul’s writings are “Scripture” equal to the Old Testament. Therefore, for me “all scripture” does include the New Testament.
The NT is God commanding us. We are not to add what isn’t His commands.
God the Eternal Son added to Himself human nature via the virgin birth, and dwelt among us, teaching us the New Covenant. We accept it, and His apostles teaching it as the Word of God.
Jesus is the “Word of God”
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
…
10 He [The Word] was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said,`He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’”
16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
(Jn. 1:1-18 NKJ)
There it is concisely stated. 100% true. God the Father set His seal on all this as true by raising Jesus up from the dead.
38 "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
39 "And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree.
40 "Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly,
41 "not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.
42 "And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.
43 “To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”
(Acts 10:38-43 NKJ)
“In the creation, I believe The Lord could very well have created fossils. His purpose was for their to be another potential, scientific explanation outside of what He has said in the Bible. This creates a potential path for doubt or faith.”
Essentially, god “created scientific results” to “trick us”, meaning the results may be valid but so is literal interpretations of the bible; therefore something like the finite history as defined in the bible is fact and science that implies otherwise was “created” by god to mislead us.
Reading is hard. Incoming some convoluted explanation, but that’s expected.
