When you are watching tv sports game or a debate

Do you stand up for the national anthem? Or do you sit on the couch or in a chair

I don’t watch sports and I can’t recall the last time I saw something where it was played.

I thought it was like covers though, and not a requirement indoors as far as protocol goes.

Is that not the case? Is there even a protocol?

I do what most people do at the event, take a piss or buy nachos.

There used to be a joke about a Mexican fellow telling his friends back home about going to a sold out American football game and how, desperate he’d been to at least see some of it, he ended up climbing a pole. The Gringos all noticed because at one point they all stood, turned towards him and asked: “Jose, can you see?”

Or the Olympics.

Reminds me of the old horse racetrack joke.

Before the races begin the national anthem is played.

so ole Joe, Parley Pete, and tony the tout are in Las Vegas playing the horses.

They get there early in the morning.

First up is Saratoga racetrack. The national anthem is played, all three stand in reverence, hands over heart.

same thing with Monmouth, Gulfstream Park and Churchill downs. all three stand again, each time the anthem is played

next up is Del Mar. the anthem Joe and Pete both stand again. But Tony continues to dope out the form. after the anthem is finished and both sit down confused

Why didnt you stand for the anthem? They both ask.

Tony retorts in a loud voice.

“I aint playing Del Mar today”

LOL. ROFL.

Am I the only person who stands at attention and renders a salute to the television?

If you love the military you’ll get your ass off the couch for the national anthem

And if you are with my VietNam combat vet friend, you would be well advised to do just that… well … regardless of whether you love the military or not.

So do you stand all the time or only when your Vietnam vet friend is there?

Well, you see that’s the only time I watch anything where the national anthem is played… when I’m at his house.

Really? You’ve never watched a sporting event anywhere else? Ever?

How about your own house?

I have no recollection of doing so.

Can you read?

So you never once in your life watched a sporting event before becoming his friend?

I can read enough to know you’re stuck. You now have to either post that you’ve stood for every national anthem during your life, or admit you haven’t (thus disrespecting the military, your friend and patriotic football fans).

I’m sure I have. Just no recollection.

But suppose I had. I likely would not have stood. It was that same friend who opened my eyes. He went through hell in Vietnam. He told me that each time when he came back from patrol, as he was within seeing distance, even just a glimpse of that flag was precious to him.

He now helps vets returning from the new wars.

No you see hes only ever watched sports games with his Vietnam vet friend that forces him to stand lol

What about presidential debates. Surely you watched those and stood for the national anthem
