I would not be surprised if an American pop star eventually does a version of the song.

The song originated during the Russian Civil War. I find it ironic to see a group performing the song on a barge on the canals of Saint Petersburg surrounded by modern capitalism and tsarist palaces.
Generations of lies from the government have made Russians extremely skeptical and cynical. That is still true today as in the case with Greg Gutfeld’s Russian wife:
