What are the Last Days?

What are the last days?

When were they to occur?

Anyone? Everyone?

Everyday is “the last day”….or at least IMHO….that’s how you should live your life.

Regarding your question; read Matthew Chapter 24. You’re hearing The Truth directly from The Lord. What I concentrate on is where He says that things will become so lawless, good mens’ hearts will turn cold but he who endures till the end, shall be saved.

I keep asking that person looking back at me in the mirror, if his heart is turning cold.

Depends on how you look at it. The World War I generation thought they were in the last days because WWI was so awful and was killing so many young men that it was literally unprecedented in the history of the civilized world. They really thought it was the end during that time period.

Every day is the only day. It’s the first and the last, the alpha and the omega.

Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow will never come. Now is all we’ll ever have.

I believe Jesus was well informed about Mahayana Buddhism

The principle was that a Buddha appears and then. Passes away the Law begins to spread as the populace follows the Law enthusiasticly the teachings spread for a thousand years, This is called The former day of the Law. The second thousand years, the teaching have less influence and the teaching is still there but loses it’s. Popularity. and influence but the temples deteriorate and it becomes theory and institutional dogma only. The third period, the Latter Day of the Law lasts for 10,000 years, where the Law becomes corrupted and the Law is no longer effective until a time where the Bodhisatvas of the Earth appear to make way for the Buddha of the Lotus Sutra. That becomes the time of the greatest awakening and all beings shed their transient identity and reveal their Buddha nature. Even in the Latter day, true religion is percolating, awaiting the emergence of the Bodhisatvas to appear.to the reveal the Supreme Law.

The three times of the Law, is a natural principle which exists in all things. In anything enthusiasm and faith can be strong at first, then wane and die out, yet underlying all things is the true principle according to human faith.

The Daijuku Sutra says: "When the teachings of the Buddha truly become obscured and lost, then people will all let their beards, hair and fingernails grow long, and the laws of the world will be forgotten and ignored.

At that time, loud noises will sound in the air and the earth will shake; everything in the world will begin to move as though it were a waterwheel. City walls will split and tumble, and all houses and dwellings will collapse. Roots, branches, leaves, petals and fruits will lose their medicinal properties. With the exception of the heavens of purity, all the regions of the world of desire will become deprived of the seven flavors and the three kinds of vitality, until not a trace of them remains any more.

All the good discourses that lead people to emancipation will at this time disappear. The flowers and fruits that grow in the earth will become few and will lose their flavor and sweetness. The wells, springs and ponds will all go dry, the land everywhere will turn brackish and will crack open and warp into hillocks and gullies. All the mountains will be swept by fire and the heavenly beings and dragons will no longer send down rain. The seedlings of the crops will all wither and die, all the living plants will perish, and even the weeds will cease to grow any more. Dust will rain down until all is darkness and the sun and the moon no longer shed their light.

"All the four directions will be afflicted by drought, and evil omens will appear again and again. The ten evil acts will increase greatly, particularly greed, anger and stupidity, and people will think no more of their fathers and mothers than does the roe deer. Living beings will decline in numbers, in longevity, physical strength, dignity and enjoyment. They will become estranged from the delights of the human and heavenly realms and all will fall into the paths of evil

The wicked rulers and monks who perform these ten evil acts will curse and destroy my correct teaching and make it difficult for those in the human and heavenly realms to stay there. At that time the benevolent deities and heavenly kings, who would ordinarily take pity on living beings, will abandon this impure and evil nation and all will make their way to other regions."

Every generation for 2000 years looked for an end to this physical world.

When I was a Senior, and I was in the last month of the school year, I was nearing the end. The last week was the last days of the school year. Then it was the last day, and after that is was the last hour. When that bell rang, was the end. The sun was still shining and everything looked the same.

When the writer of Hebrew said this: “1 “In many and various ways God spoke of old to our fathers by the prophets; 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things,………” Hebrew 1:1-2 ………

He was telling the Hebrews that God had spoken to the people through the prophets under that old law, but in the “LAST DAYS” - of that old law, he spoke to the people by JESUS – His Son.

Through the New Covenant Scripture, the Apostles talked about the last days, the last day and the last hour.

There was an overlapping of the old law and the new Perfect Law of Liberty of about 40 years when people were taught that they free.

The outcome was that men and women now had access to eternal life that was lost in Adam finally had become accessible again in Jesus . The tree of life is accessible to us right now.

There are no last days in eternal things.

Those temporary things lasted up until that last hour. Then they ceased —vanished – were done away with. Eternity rolls.

Nor are there any future days or past days in the Eternal Now.

Today could be any one of our “last days”. I hear the Mighty Death Pop happens quick.

There is no night there.

That is all we’ve got to worry about - the end of our life. God has taken care of the rest.

Not that we should worry, but we do. Psalms 115:16 “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.”

Does anybody disagree with me? Have other thoughts? Post them so we can have a good discussion.

From a philosophical standpoint, it’s an interesting discussion. I’m not very religious myself (Deist) so that aspect of it I can’t really comment on with any authority.

I’ve got this feeling that almost every generation that has ever existed thought they were living in the end times in one way or another. Maybe finality and the “end” is just an innate thing humans think about.

We have been in the “last days” or even the “last hour” for ~2000 years.

Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. 1 John 2:18

In this passage, John told the disciples 2000 years ago that it was the last days. He was not speaking to us today. Scripture is good for our learning, but the people that the message was written for, lived through those days. It was the last days of the Old Covenant of law, that God made with the Jews and bringing the New Covenant of Grace that we are all under today in Jesus.

Only the Jews were under that Law that God gave to the them –The Law of Moses —- that old covenant that was between God and the Jews.

Non-Jews that were living in those days, had never been under that Old Law. so it meant nothing to them. That Old Covenant was ready to vanish away it was the last days of that covenant. God doesn’t speak through the prophets now. That ended at the Cross.

If you were a Jewish disciple of Christ living in that first Century, that message was to you.

I believe the earth was created 6000 years ago. 2000 years is a third of the time for mankind. Isn’t it hard for you to believe that 2000 years is all "the last days?”

In that Scripture you quoted, John was telling the disciples….

“And the world passeth away (Greek “is passing away”), and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. Little children, it is the last time (Greek - last hour”): and as ye have heard that the antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; where we know that it is the last time (Greek “last hour”) . 1 John 2:18

These are God’s time passages. They are repeated by Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Peter, James and the writer of Hebrews. They mean what they said.

There were many antichrists there when John was speaking, yet people today are still looking for what they call “the antichrist” that would signal what? The end of time? The end of the world?

If these people who saw Jesus and His apostles when they were on earth and rejected Jesus ( and many did) they were anti Christ. They were so much the antiChrists, that they murdered them. They murdered the prophets, they murdered Jesus and they murdered the apostles and many disciples of Christ. That cannot be reenacted. That was a once and for all happening.

This inscription was found on a Babylonian clay tablet said to be 3000-4000 years old that reads:

“The world is coming to an end. Children no longer obey their parents, and everyone is writing a book”

Yeah sounds more like 2026 rather than 2500 BC. Same concerns.

I will try and come up with something interesting to say, but I hesitate because I sometimes come off the same as some pompous atheist and I don’t want to be seen as being rude about it.

Anytime could be “ the end of days”. Live your life as God intended. Until the trumpets sound? Treat every day as the first day of the rest of your life!
