My cousin’s house had a small lake/pond out back. I was so excited to be in paradise that I dove in and swan to the other side and back. On the way back, my cousin was hootin’ and hollerin’, cheering me on. It was awesome.
Then I got out and he pointed to the two alligators that were stalking me like an angry lib on a msg board. Turns out he was calling me an idiot the whole time and didn’t want to watch me get eaten alive.
My first day out at work, I was smoothing out a newly poured pool when a freakin’ HURRICANE came roaring in. It was a miserable, muggy and hot day, so I soaked up all the water I could until my boss pulled up in the truck. I hopped in and got relaxed, satisfied with the day’s work.
Then I noticed he wasn’t going home. Turned out, hurricanes happen every day at 330pm sharp, and end by 4pm. Back to work, but now it’s steamy too.
Insurrection might be too strong, given that there was no violent attempt at an overthrow. But the capitol Hill march could certainly have turned very ugly.
I strongly believe history will show that we came really close to Trump pulling off his overthrow of our newly elected President. If not for a few who refused to go along…
I know there are multiple threads already dissecting these events, so no need to get into it here. My point was that I believe the events following Trump’s loss, and what has transpired since, have turned a lot of people off of the GOP. Had the GOP come out strong against those events and disavowed them, I believe these mid-terms would look very different. IMHO
I could definitely see us spending a lot of time down in Florida during the winter after the kids are out of the house. As things are, we’re planning on living in a double decker bus for a decade or so, chasing fair weather adventures the whole time.
Tennessee amended Article I, Section 33 of their state constitution which read:
slavery and involuntary servitude are forever prohibited in this state – except as punishment for a person who has been duly convicted of crime.
the amendment now reads:
Slavery and involuntary servitude are forever prohibited. Nothing in this section shall prohibit an inmate from working when the inmate has been duly convicted of a crime.
Louisiana voters rejected ballot Amendment 7 that asked if they supported a constitutional amendment to prohibit involuntary servitude in their criminal justice system. Involuntary servitude is slavery.
Oregon, Vermont, and Alabama had similar measures that involved slave labor.
so yes… slavery was on ballots in 2022.
