Welcome to NATO Sweden!

There were certain posters who were very hopeful this would never happen, and would always cheer when there was some delay…but Sweden will join NATO today.

Good work Russia. You got two nations that have been neutral for decades(and for Sweden centuries) to join NATO. Adding two more very advanced militaries to NATO, essentially making the Baltic a NATO lake, creating a much longer border with NATO you have to defend. Good work.

I’ll also mention good work by the rest of NATO and the current administration on finding a way to get Turkey and Hungary to sign on. That was difficult and had to have been complicated and frustrating.

Putin certainly miscalculated on this or he thought invading Ukraine was worth risking NATO becoming stronger.

Interesting reply. Is there something you’d like to add to the discussion? We did add in two countries who are already above the 2% of GDP for the military goal that NATO has. That’s certainly good.

Excellent news.

“We”…

When will the Ceasefire Ukraine protests begin?

Only the second Arab country to join nato welcome Sweden to U.S. taxpayers funded defense paid by poor people who go bankrupt if they get sick.

So are we going to see EU raising our sea level with their might navy? And EU air force darkening our skies?

Or is that the job for Americans? Inquiring minds want to know.

Now that we will be paying for their defense, they’ll have more $$ to throw at welfare programs so they can be one of the “happiest” countries on the planet.

They’re still struggling with child soldiers,

so my opinion it is going to be completely US tax funded equipment.

Well I’ll skip over the first part because that’s really stupid, but Sweden has a very well funded military. Do you know how NATO works?

Just another country that will expect the US to come riding to the rescue if they have any problems.

I’m not seeing why we should celebrate.

We’re not paying for their defense. They’re paying for their defense. They’ve been massively increasing their defense spending in order to help join NATO and meet the 2% goal. Which they’ve done. And their plans are to keep increasing defense spending. You’ve chosen the wrong country to use as an example of a free loader.

And I know this gets mentioned but always seems to be forgotten. The only country in NATO to EVER invoke Article 5 for help was the United States.

Yes, I know how NATO works, I also know that Nvidia alone is worth more than all of the Russian economy together. Bigger fish to fry cough China instead of wasting time protecting rich Europeans who are more than able to take care of themselves, but they would prefer social goodies for their citizens. Obama knew this.

Quite true, but that doesn’t fit the narrative that NATO means the US being taken advantage of. If we are the only country that ever invoked Article 5, that wouldn’t make sense.

So what? They don’t have to “invoke article 5” to expect us to carry the load in European wars.

We know how it really works which is why none of the conservatives seem to support it.
