There were certain posters who were very hopeful this would never happen, and would always cheer when there was some delay…but Sweden will join NATO today.
Good work Russia. You got two nations that have been neutral for decades(and for Sweden centuries) to join NATO. Adding two more very advanced militaries to NATO, essentially making the Baltic a NATO lake, creating a much longer border with NATO you have to defend. Good work.
I’ll also mention good work by the rest of NATO and the current administration on finding a way to get Turkey and Hungary to sign on. That was difficult and had to have been complicated and frustrating.
Interesting reply. Is there something you’d like to add to the discussion? We did add in two countries who are already above the 2% of GDP for the military goal that NATO has. That’s certainly good.
Now that we will be paying for their defense, they’ll have more $$ to throw at welfare programs so they can be one of the “happiest” countries on the planet.
We’re not paying for their defense. They’re paying for their defense. They’ve been massively increasing their defense spending in order to help join NATO and meet the 2% goal. Which they’ve done. And their plans are to keep increasing defense spending. You’ve chosen the wrong country to use as an example of a free loader.
Yes, I know how NATO works, I also know that Nvidia alone is worth more than all of the Russian economy together. Bigger fish to fry cough China instead of wasting time protecting rich Europeans who are more than able to take care of themselves, but they would prefer social goodies for their citizens. Obama knew this.
Quite true, but that doesn’t fit the narrative that NATO means the US being taken advantage of. If we are the only country that ever invoked Article 5, that wouldn’t make sense.
