We Don’t Need to “Monkey this Up”

Forever, are you happy now? Does it disappoint you that there isn’t a self life on saying racist things?

That’s ok. You can still use it to describe socialism. Socialism is a concept and wont mind.

I know you’re trying hard, but he didn’t say that. He said something no one has ever said before, something he has never said before, on the very first day he of his campaign against a black opponent.

But there is zero basis for morphing his statement of monkeying around with the economy into a reference to his opponents race. In fact, it is a little questionable and insulting to interpret it that way. Monkey has a meaning other than a racial epithet. In fact, 99% of the time the word is used it does not mean that.

99% of the time we don’t have Trump leading the republican narrative.

Already done…I’ve been called a racist for pointing out that it isn’t a known colloquialism.

Forever living the victim’s life.

It’s a convenient way to smear not only Desantis but all Republicans. Nice going media.

Of course there is. Seems to me the basis is he wants libs to accuse him of being racist while he plays the victim, drumming up hatred against the left.

Still waiting on when he ever used the “monkey” phrase before.

If not liking people using racist terms toward me is being a victim… then I am honored to be a victim.

But remember Doug the media bias doesn’t exist. It’s all in our heads.

Did you miss Fox News almost immediatly stating they dont condone Desantis language? Its not just “liberal media”

Do you think he said the right think or not? If you say no, then why do you think so?

Wow. That guy really set up a subtle trap then. And the left fell for it.
Might as concede the race to that Moriarty right now.

I am too…but it is an odd thing how many are willing to go to the wall over this being a common colloquialism (it’s not)…rather than admit he misspoke.

Maybe they are really worrying about freudian slips and dog whistles after all.

Not sure I want to wade in on this, but what the hell. Just thinking of contextual examples.

There are times when my daughter does something sly or clever, and I’ll refer to her as a “sneaky monkey.” Don’t know where I got that, I just started using it when she was a toddler and it stuck as a term of endearment for her.

I would not feel comfortable referring to a black friend or their children with that same term, precisely because in the past whites used terms like “ape” and “monkey” to dehumanize blacks. It’s simply a matter of being aware of our history and refusing to even go there, in much the same way I would never refer to a black male as “boy.” Even if done innocently, it evokes a negative past.

And again, in the particular incident that inspired this thread I don’t think the guy was intentionally racist or even trying to dog whistle. It was just a dumb thing to say.

Pretty simple card out of Trump’s playbook, don’t know why you think it takes a genius to execute.

The funny thing about idioms and colloquialisms…the parts do not equal the whole.

Moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem would likely monkey it up, and do so before an attempt can even be made to try this new path.

Good…perhaps you can explain the use of a non-existant colloquialism then.
