2020 presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren extended her calls for racial reparations this week; saying America’s “gay and lesbian” couples are “owed $50 million” due to the United States’ “discriminatory tax code.”

“It wasn’t until marriage equality became law that gay & lesbian couples could jointly file tax returns—so they paid more in taxes. Our government owes them more than $50M for the years our discriminatory tax code left them out. We must right these wrongs,” posted Warren on social media.

Warren unveiled her latest proposal to radically transform the country’s education system Monday; calling for the creation of free public colleges and the cancellation of nearly all student loan debt.

“We got into this crisis because state governments and the federal government decided that instead of treating higher education like our public school system — free and accessible to all Americans — they’d rather cut taxes for billionaires and giant corporations and offload the cost of higher education onto students and their families,” writes Warren in an op-ed published by Medium.

“The first step in addressing this crisis is to deal head-on with the outstanding debt that is weighing down millions of families and should never have been required in the first place. That’s why I’m calling for something truly transformational — the cancellation of up to $50,000 in student loan debt for 42 million Americans,” she adds.

“Public college education is like a public K-12 education — a basic public good that should be available to everyone with free tuition and zero debt at graduation. My plan for universal free college will give every American the opportunity to attend a two-year or four-year public college without paying a dime in tuition or fees,” concludes Warren.

Warren has routinely vowed to “remake” the American economy on the campaign trail in recent weeks.

“As the 23 candidates seeking the Democratic nomination struggle to distinguish themselves, Senator Elizabeth Warren has set herself apart with a series of sweeping proposals that would significantly remake the American economy, covering everything from tax policy to student debt relief and offering a detailed portrait of what her presidency might look like,” reports the New York Times.

“Many of the proposals from Ms. Warren, a former Harvard law professor and hawk on financial regulation, could face a difficult path to winning over moderates in a general election, and to gaining approval in Congress if she did take the White House. But the sheer volume of her plans, and their detail and variety, is forcing her rivals to play catch-up and stake out their own positions,” adds the Times.

Her proposals allow the federal government to monitor -and in some cases- dictate industry standards, salaries, bonuses, and more. She’s also called for the “break-up” of large technology companies, including Google and Amazon.
