WAR in Ukraine, Putin approves initiation of special military operation (Part 1)

His sincerely was made obvious already. They can’t even allow for evacuation corridors.

The calls by Macron etc made it fairly obvious.

Putin keeps his opponents talking while he makes moves. Getting the West to engage the talks in the naive belief that diplomacy can solve anything is just a diversion.

I don’t believe he’s the evil genius people think he is.

Who is talking evil genius? He has the mind set of a colonial era Tsar. And the temperament of an experienced emotionless killer. Evil geniuses have thought out master plans that no one sees coming. Putin uses a sledge hammer to get his way.

Where did you get that idea? Just because someone compared him to a Bond villain?

Oh yeah, huge difference. It’s worse: it’s a cowardly, evasive way of avoiding answering the question and offending Putin. Can’t you see that? It’s the same with his Rafael Cruz being involved in the Kennedy assassination ■■■■■■■■■ First, he said:

“His father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald’s being — you know, shot . . . What is this, right prior to his being shot, and nobody even brings it up. They don’t even talk about that. That was reported, and nobody talks about it.”

LOL. That was reported.

Then:
Later: All I did was point out that on the cover of the National Enquirer there was a picture of him and crazy Lee Harvey Oswald having breakfast.

It’s the same with this constant “People are saying.” These are the kind of clumsy rhetorical ploys used by manipulative junior high schoolers : “Do you know what ______ said about you?”; “Hey, don’t get mad, all I am doing is telling you what was said,” etc.

If you prefer Trump’s policies to Biden’s, fine. But he’s a profoundly dishonest person who often refuses to own his slurs, insults, and terrible behavior (e.g., flat-out lying about paying off Stormy Daniels, a porn star who he banged while his wife was home with their newborn son).

If you’re fine with ■■■■■■■■ like this, hey—great. But I’ve spent decades rooting them out of my life because they’re toxic, manipulative liars. Transparently so.

Our previous president has referred to him as a “genius” relatively recently. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but a lot of people here believe things that our previous president says.

Sooo … our ex-president is “people”?

The situation in Mariupol is getting surreal.

Russian Ministry of Defense: Civilians are free to leave. Soldiers must surrender.

The Russian Federation publicly and officially declares that there are no obstacles to the exit of civilians from Azovstal, except for the principled decision of the Kiev authorities themselves and the commanders of nationalist formations to continue to hold civilians as human shields.

Russia says civilians can leave the Mariupol steel plant, but Ukraine disagrees | KPBS Public Media

Ukrainian commander in Azovstal: We need another Dunkirk to rescue soldiers and civilians.
See video starting at 1:30.

Does the Ukrainian commander really expect a fleet of small boats to arrive from the English coast?

Russia controls the sea and air for hundreds of miles from Mariupol. Where is the evacuation supposed to come from?

After Bucha, it is understandable why civilians might have doubts about their treatment by Russian soldiers.

This is seriously one of the more ■■■■■■ up takes I have read here on really just about anything.

Yeah…

no, what i can see is the lie about what he said and then some obfuscation after getting caught.

you mean like purposefully misquoting someone or making ■■■■■■■■ dishonest claims about what somebody said because it serves your ■■■■■■■■ narrative? yeah, i agree, very junior high school

you just described brandon in a nutshell

When did the Ukraine become a western ally? Before the civil war broke out the country fairly elected Viktor Yanukovych who everyone knew leaned towards Russia.

There is this John McCain neocon talking points since the war broke out that is painting a different picture of Ukraine. They have never been a major ally to the U.S. Even Obama knew better than this ■■■■ and wouldn’t supply lethal aid to Ukraine not to escalate a confrontation with Russia.

The current admin has done a 180 with Ukraine just last week Austria rejected Ukraine being a member of the EU, they know the stakes of gaining nothing and risking nuclear war.

As soon as you fly into Ukraine it feels like Russia, I have nothing but love for the people of the Ukraine but they have not historically been a western ally.

The ghost of John McCain with a slice of Lindsey Graham is running America’s foreign policy atm. The neocons are fully back in charge.

They didn’t, not in the technical sense, anyway.

BUT, they are a plucky little country fighting a tyrant who happens to also be our adversary.

So of course we’re going to help them, so long as a Russophile isn’t in the Oval Office.

Yes, the headlines about alleged Russian atrocities in Bucha can be scary.

My observation is that there are plenty of good reasons to be skeptical about the reports. A starting place is to look at the credibility of the source for the claims. The best evidence deadly shots fired in 2014 Euromaidan massacre came from far-right Ukrainian nationalists. The massacre was used as a pretext for 2014 revolution that removed the elected pro-Russian president and established the current government in Kiev. Given that history, Ukrainian reports of Russian atrocities should be viewed with skepticism.

Another factor is that the chaos of war makes it difficult to say what actually happened.

Government censorship is also a factor. Both sides limit access to the war zones, and both sides limit information from the war zone. In March, Ukraine arrested a man for allegedly posting a video that showed Ukrainian military vehicles at a mall. Coming forward with information that contradicts the official narrative is likely to result in arrest or retribution.

Recent news is that “flechettes” from artillery rounds have been recovered from the bodies.

While the Guardian headline says that the flechettes came from “Russian artillery”, both sides have used reportedly use these types of rounds in Donbas.

When it came to the Flechette Round, Alex broke down as he recalled its usage against him and his family. Which side fired them, he still doesn’t know. ”Separatists of [sic] the Ukrainian Army, both sides always blame the other. Bastards” he said, reinforcing the reality of the conventional war of shadowy deniability that characterizes the Donbass conflict.

Good news: Civilians are starting to leave Azovstal.

Note that the BBC fails to mention statement from the Russian government about civilians being free to leave. Instead they say that the civilians somehow escaped in spite of Russian efforts to keep them in Azovstal.

Are false narratives endangering the lives of civilians still in Azovstal?

That is some spin.

it ain’t spin, its what he actually said.

No it’s spin. If he didn’t actually believe Putin then he wouldn’t of gone on to suggest we work together with Russia on cybersecurity
