US House passes bill to cut funding for 87,000 new IRS agents

Should we tell her or naw?

But…did they defund them? Is the senate going to support this?

Spoilers! They will not.

Don’t spending bills have to originate in the house?

Yes…

So if the house is determined to cut funding there is nothing the Senate or President can do to stop them.

This was a bill to DEFUND already approved money. Pure theatrics…. Going nowhere.

They can just cut that amount from the next funding. Same difference.

That’s not true. It is still legislation that requires the senate to pass it and it is subject to veto.

Sure, but same rules still apply.

Oh they can shut down the government over it but that’s it. They can’t force them to fund it.

None of it’s forced. It’s about compromises in conference. Moreover, one of McCarthy’s concessions is to consider 12 separate appropriation bills rather than an omnibus bill, making a shut down less likely. More likely is the affected department frozen with a continuing resolution.

Nobody was talking about “forcing”. It’s about jow many Republicans are out there saying and thinking well it passed the House it’s law now and she’s far from the only one saying i, or believing it from what I see.

This is all performative, pro wrestling for people who watch pro wrestling.

It’s really bonkers that “shutting down the government” is seen as a legit legislative tactic, oh yeah they can just shut down the government.

Curious

How many times did they vote to repeal the ACA?
