Japanese companies crushed in the 70s and 80s because MITI, basically their ministry of trade, bore all the costs of long term R&D and oh yeah coordinated with all the big electronics companies on exactly how and when to dump products on the market at a loss and which company would do it where and various other things.
Japanese corporations are subsidized by their government to a degree thatās unfathomable even to places like Germany, let alone here. Itās not just because they get along real well.
When you get your research money from the federal govt you are a politician.
