That sucks mate. My eldest daughter is in the same boat. Luckily my youngest just bought her first house and got their mortgage approved and locked in 2 days before the fixed rates were pulled.
But be thankful for living in the UK, over here the general opinion is that any financial hardship is self inflicted and you obviously havent pulled up your bootstraps recently.
The public is overwhelmed by an extreme energy crisis that is driving severe inflation and recession, and the state-controlled media have done their best to ignore the obvious cause for the problems.
Britain is looking forward to a winter of blackouts, fuel shortages, severe inflation and recession. That is not going to change so long as the energy embargoes remain in effect.
Expect unrest as people realize that the election has done nothing to improve their situation, and none of the political parties is willing to solve the problem.
A likely response from a Labour government will be to ramp up government repression, censorship, and coercion.
Yes, “yay sanctions!” has the party line from all the major parties and all the English-speaking media. The current polls are hardly surprising since any voices against the sanctions have been silenced.
Western media is only grudgingly admitted is that the sanctions are hurting Europe far more than they have hurt Russia.
The real question is what will happen this winter? An expected Russian offensive is likely to achieve victory on the battlefield. Average people in Britain and other parts of Europe will face cold homes, shut businesses, and rolling blackouts as a result of the lack of Russian gas and oil.
What will the response be from western governments when average people demand an end to self-inflicted embargos? Will they end the sanctions?
Or will they double down on censorship, harassment, and imprisonment for anyone who dissent from the official edicts?
When I visited Scotland recently, I was surprised to see the Ukrainian flag was more prominently displayed than either the Union Jack or the Scottish flag.
The not-so-subtle message: The war in Ukraine is vital to the elites. The concerns of British citizens are not.
Will the decorative blue and yellow lights be kept on even as British homes are cold and dark?
